Default To What Extent Does VHLinks Have Upon The Band's Actions?

I've never met Ed, but anyone that has, says that he is very humble regarding his work.

I wonder if his sense of humility causes for him to undervalue his work; certainly, this would lead him to think that his fans "take Van Halen more seriously than he does."

His humility would likewise cause him to think that we're clinging to the band to preserve our youth.

With that as a backdrop, I wonder what influence my fellow Linkers have, on the direction that the band takes?

At first glance, everyone's answer would be "none."

However, Roth is clearly fried, and as a result the band's output has dwindled to nothing. The only reason why Roth is in the band, is because Ed thinks that the fans won't tolerate his replacement.

There's a part of me that can't help but feel, if we got together in support of a new direction for the band, it might give them the courage to move in a different direction.

"Nah dude; Ed's in semi retirement, enjoying life."

If you really believe that, consider: what if the band's relationship with Sam never dwindled? Given Sam's propensity to put himself out there, do you really think that Ed would've put himself in semi retirement with Sam fronting the band? Perhaps they would've slowed down, but do you not think that they'd have continued putting our new material?

    Of course they would have.

The real issue here, is their aversion to working with Roth. They can't work with him, so they don't. And they only employ Roth, because they see him as having no substitute with the fans.

    That's where we come in
Our hearts' are with you Wolf, Al, and Janie; blessings upon you all.

We have 0.00% impact on Van Halen.
If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

I dunno...I can't help but feel that the band is averse to trying different things, because they think that it wouldn't be received.

It was definitely no coincidence that the following songs were played on the 2015 tour:

    Feel Your Love Tonight
    Light Up The Sky
    Women In Love
    In A Simple Rhyme
    Dirty Movies
    Drop Dead Legs

    Thank you, Wolf.

I am not pointing fingers at anyone in saying this, but has the general consensus on this board *ever* encouraged the band to strive in a different direction?

If the attitude of fans towards most things is "hell no," is it any wonder that the band hasn't tried anything else?

Again...not pointing fingers, but exploring the "cause and effect" relationship here.

In order for that to be a possibility, the band would have to acknowledge the board. I think this board has begged for new music — in any form — to the point that it’s become pointless to continue asking.

The band has sold a gazillion albums and I'd guess there are fewer than 20 people who really post here regularly. The influence is less than zero, if that high...

Zero influence from the internet. If this board were hundred percent positive, it would make no difference to the decision maker.

However, Wolfie did mine threads for deep cut choices, that much is fairly certain.

The band doesn't try new things because of the mainstream reception of VH3 and the fact that they've pigeonholed themselves into a nostalgia act. Not because of a few dozen diehards on a fan site.
