Vice: The Dick Cheney Story
Just watched “Vice,” the Dick Cheney biopic. I’ve always regarded Cheney as the most likely person to be charged as a US war criminal in the wake of the Middle East war stemming from 9/11 so clearly, I have no love for the guy.
But holy shit, this movie paints him and everyone around him as despicable at best, and downright evil at worst. Bale is great as always and the makeup job they did on him is amazing. The movie makes a lot of parallels to the current administration and can’t help but take a dig at Trump in the closing credits. Some characters are almost cartoon versions of themselves (Bush Jr is every bit the clueless goof you’d get from an SNL skit). The movie moves back and forth through Cheneys timeline and occasional characters break the forth wall and speak directly to the viewer.
I can’t say it’s a great movie, but often aspires to be at least daring. It certainly doesn’t hide it’s bias which is absolutely againt the Republican administrations through the last 40 years.

Christian Bale has the charisma and personality of a rock. American Psycho is the only entertaining performance he has ever given.
People got fooled into thinking that he was a legit star because he got cast as Batman. Without that role he would still be stuck doing small indie films.

I think he would be very happy to be the Prince of the independent film. He has been doing this since he was a kid and he does not like the fame aspect of the business. He signed on to the Batman films because he was told the first one was going to be a lower budget noir film and he liked that idea. He could have gone and made super hero movies for the rest of his career but he went back to primarily small character driven movies like the Fighter, American Hustle and the Big short.

I used to respect his approach, but that stopped when he started to be an idiot. I’m just saying that he gets by with being a method actor and not by charisma and personality. Truth is, he probably would agree.
Definitely without Squire. As long as he was there I believed in the company line.
