So here's what this is... you know the audience-shot 1979 footage from Fresno? It circulated ages ago, but was extremely blurry. Then, in 2012, it was vastly upgraded (from the master reels), but was still incomplete. But now, for the first time, ALL of the guy's '79 Fresno footage has been released, right from his master reels! It's synced with his great-sounding audio, and there are (screen shot) photos used in the gaps when the filmer had to swap out 8MM reels (as the reels only held 3.5 minutes of video each!)

We can all thank the guy who snuck in the Fuji Singe-8 movie camera, and his separate cassette deck, for continuous audio. Supposedly a guy named D.L. Johnson. Filmed 40 years ago tonight!

As soon as I work out the finishing touches to this TIME MACHINE I've been working on, I'm setting the dial to 1979… specifically March 25, and I think I'm going to see every single show of Van Halen's 1979 tour, before I get back into the time machine and change the dial. Wish me luck.

You had to be a lot more committed back then to record a show vs smartphone era. Also more creative to get the gear into venues.

    Thumbs up

The band sounds awesome. Roth's singing is perfection too, he even does the screams like he does on the albums. I like when he says "help me Michael".

Eddie Trunk likes to say that Roth never sang great live, he doesn't know what he is talking about.

Pretty cool. Sounds like the guy has been teasing it for years.

I just checked out his youtube channel and he's got short clips of TONS of great bands from that era. He just today posted a 1979 ACDC clip with two songs. Friggin' cool.

Dude, this is where Trunk gets hit hard and rightly so. His opinion on Roth was very different before his friendship with Sam. He’s been shown all of these videos by fans online but he never responds. He must know about them.

    Anyway this is awesome!

Yeah, he might not have been spot on all the time, but he was damn good here.
I asked a ref if he could give me a technical foul for thinking bad things about him. He said, of course not. I said, well, I think you stink. And he gave me a technical. You can't trust em. -
