    Default Drop to Hell Bridge

What ever happened to the D2H bridge? Does anyone have one? Just curious what the hell happened to the D2H?

Not sure what happened to it, or why the indefinite delay?
One of our members made a mock up of the D2H , although I believe it is cosmetic only and not a working unit.

I do recall a YT video where. Japanese guy made a working prototype and he demoed it. There were lots of comments asking for specs etc.

Yes! I saw Rob's mock D2H (his replicas are amazing). It seems like the D2H would be the equivalent of having a D-Tuna on every string of your Floyd or bridge (or something of that nature).

This made me think of Eddie and his initial remarks about the D-Tuna. Something to the effect of "Theoretically, you could have one on each saddle..." Interesting. I never tried it or knew anyone who did, yet, interesting...

It's been a while and I could be wrong, yet I thought the D2-H was more complex, similar to a hard tail Trans Trem, if that makes sense? Ie; certain strings can be lowered by 'X' amount of semitones, while others can be raised in kind or not at all... The song 'As Is' (if I'm not mistaken?) demonstrates this.

I also remember Jimmy Page using a multiple tuning bridge, waaaaaaayyy back in the 90's.

The D2H just acts as an extended range D-Tuna for the low E-string only. It can drop it all the way down to A, like Good Enough or I Want Some Action.

Never went into production, but as posted a dude in Japan replicated it.

Close. It was called "Transperformance" & was much more than just a bridge.

It was a cool idea because you could literally program in any tuning you wanted and the electronics would take care of the tuning. In theory, you'd never have to set up the guitar again. The big downside to it was that routing of almost the entire back of the body was needed to fit all of the electronics inside. So, nearly all of the balls & sustain of the instrument would be gone & you'd have to try to reproduce natural resonance with pedals & it never sounded nearly as good.

    Right on, Jedi.
Thanks for clarifying. I stand corrected, as I honestly thought (as I posted) that the bridge enabled you to have different tunings on more than one string..

    Hey guys,

basically what happened with the D2H bridge unit was three things....

    1. There were some flaws with the system that EVH had a hard time correcting as far as the unit
not coming back into tune good enough when used for the standards that would warrant a
    release to the public.

    2. There really isn't a market big enough for something like that to where it would really be worth
them releasing it. There would be the hard core guys like us that would get them but most
people aren't willing to pay what the unit would cost for essentially a "glorified d tuna" bc that
is really all it is. It only drops the low E string to different settings. Not really a big enough
invention to grab peoples attention like a D tuna would.

    3. Also the body requires additional routing sort of like a trans trem and this would also be ver
costly to make and wouldn't be something you can just throw on any stop tail piece guitar.

these are the reasons the unit never really got off the ground. I heard this right from the source as well. Maybe one day well see them but don't hold your breath. I have a 2 buritos and a root beer float EVH wolf and the bridge is a D2H mock up I made w a friend Chris Hubbard. A friend of mine in Japan made the real deal and he is the guy that is in the video above. He is an engineer and did an amazing job on his and it works well. well see what happens in the future.

    Rob

The D2H does change multiple string tunings. When its in the up position Ed has his normal Ab string set to a Bb (pretty sure a string and up are tuned a whole step higher than Ed's normal tuning). If you watch the Greensboro vid you can see how his hands move the flip switch - I've never bother to figure out the drop tuning for that song. I play the whole thing based in Ab and can cover the d2h changes pretty well that way.

As others have mentioned the D2H only affects the lowest string.

IIRC As Is is tuned B, Bb, Eb, Ab, C, F.

So Ed is really tuning the guitar a half step up from standard but then dropping what would be the low F down to a low B.

I hear you jedi, is it a low B or a low Bb flat to double the octave like the A bass string in Good Enough? It doesn't sound dissonant enough to just be a B. I still want a D2H regardless -laughs-
