Default Kingdom Come vs Greta Van Fleet

I was going through my music library and came across this:

    and this:

since these guys were branded Zep clones I thought it might be interesting to compare them to this:

to what ends? I don't know, I just thought it would be an interesting discussion.

(if this needs to be merged with another thread by the mods, I apologize).

I think KC is the most blatant LZ rip off band ever.

I kind of GVF a pass because they've come 30 years after all of the other Zep rip-off bands out there (Great White, Kingdom Come, Whitesnake, and countless others) and I feel like they're carrying the torch the music we grew up with. And that's really what we need. We shouldn't be seeing 65-70 year old rockers anymore, we should see a younger generation of bands playing the kind (originals though) of music we love.

14 year old me didn't appreciate just how much of a ripoff Get it On was. Looking back it's almost like it's a spoof.

I liked KC a bit when they came out, and still really enjoy What Love Can Be.
GVF are pretty cool in my book. I still feel their first full album has the stronger material than their follow up, yet there are good tunes on there too.

I look forward to hearing more from them.

Those 2 songs are literally the only 2 I've listened to since they first came out, I have no recollection of anything else they've ever done. I just remember when Get it On came out it was huge where I live....and then they got lambasted on the MOR tour.

IMO Great White was the band that could come the closest to sounding like LZ. If you ever heard them doing covers of LZ songs I think you would agree.

I think they released a live record of them doing just that (could be wrong)

Jack Russell could do (and still can do) a better Robert Plant than Robert Plant can these days.

The thing that sets apart Great White & Whitesnake from Kingdom Come & Greta Van Fleet is that the former two have way more originality.

Is Zeppelin an influence? Of course.
Would Led Zeppelin have ever written Still of the Night, Bad Boys, Mista Bone or Lady Red Light? Not a chance.
Would Led Zeppelin have written Highway Tune or Get It On if they kept going into the '80s? Probably.

I can't get past Greta Van Fleet's vocals. It's like the annoying teen angst version of Plant & I'm not even much of a fan of Plant's to begin with.

I think it can be an interesting discussion as well.

On topic; I was never a KC fan. GVF, on the other hand, is pretty new to me as I did not pay much attention. I guess I listened to 03, maybe 04 tunes once. So I guess I do have to listen more in order to form an opinion. But so far they do sounded good and ok. I also remember that British band, Thunder and their 1st album. A friend of mine recommended to hear a specific tune (Love Walked In) as he thought it had an Zep drum sound.

My memory is slightly fuzzy, but I remember Get It On being released to radio (at least here) way before the album release and the video release. Radio stations (at least here) and LZ fans were wildly and totally irresponsibly speculating that at least 2-3 members of Kingdom Come were actually from Zeppelin (maybe Jones, maybe Page, maybe Plant) as they played the hell out of the single. This sent my pre-internet high school into a frenzy thinking that Kingdom Come music was some sort of a front for new Zeppelin music on the horizon. All those Zeppelin kids were going bonkers proclaiming the song was and the album was going to be the greatest of all time. It was funny to see how fast that all went to hell when the album did come out and everyone realized what it really was - especially when Plant started whining about the Zep "clones".

SLIGHTLY RELATED TO TOPIC - I loved that Coverdale/Page album and I'm not even a huge Zeppelin fan. It still holds up well IMHO

I like Greta Van Fleet. They were supposed to come out here in October but cancelled kinda last minute for no apparent reason. I was bummed although I'm the first to admit they have zero stage presence. The copycat thing doesn't really bother me I guess because I like the music.

We used to laugh and laugh at the first(?) Kingdom Come album because it was called In Your Face. We wondered if they wanted people to think the band was called Kingdom and the album was Come In Your Face. That's what we called it anyway... I'm pretty sure they opened on the Monsters of Rock tour in Spokane and played to a mostly empty stadium. I was there though and enjoyed it. Probably the last time I ever listened to any of their music, though!
