Spider-Man: Homecoming
The next Spider-Man movie has a title — it'll be called Spider-Man: Homecoming, Sony Pictures chairman Tom Rothman confirmed last night. Speaking on stage at CinemaCon in Las Vegas, Rothman said the title was designed to reference its high-school-aged star, but also to show that "Peter (Parker) is trying to find his way home." A new slice of footage shown on stage featured the teenage Parker literally coming home to find his Aunt May — played by Marisa Tomei — speaking with Tony Stark, a combination possible since Sony and Marvel made a deal to allow Spidey into the comic company's current cinematic universe.
Homecoming will star Tom Holland, the third actor to play the role after Tobey Maguire donned the form-fitting red suit back in 2002, helping to kickstart the wave of superhero movies we're still surfing 14 years later. Sony announced that its new movie is due out on July 7th next year, but we'll be seeing Holland's Spidey on the big screen before then — the friendly neighborhood hero makes a cameo appearance in Captain America: Civil War, arriving in theaters next month.Last edited by Number 47; 04.13.16 at 05:30 AM.

***CA: Civil War spoiler in pale yellow***
Jon Watt’s 2017 solo Spidey film is officially titled Spider-Man Homecoming
Although Tom Holland, the Marvel cinematic universe’s new Spider-Man, hit the red carpet for today’s Captain America: Civil War premiere earlier tonight, it seems he immediately boarded a plane and flew to Las Vegas to surprise the crowd at CinemaCon 2016. There, as part of the Sony Pictures presentation, Holland helped announce that next summer’s solo Spidey film has a title. As has been rumored for a few days, the July 7, 2017 release will be titled Spider-Man Homecoming.
“It really is a homecoming,” Holland told the crowd, “because, throughout the movie, Peter is trying to find out who he is and where he belongs in this world.”
Earlier this week, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige teased that Spider-Man Homecoming will feature characters from throughout the MCU. Fans will get to see Holland’s webslinger interacting with their favorite Marvel superheroes a lot sooner than next summer, however, as Spidey is slated to make his debut in Civil War. In fact, a new clip from Civil War ended the Sony Pictures presentation,*** offering a look at Peter Parker’s first encounter with Robert Downey Jr.’s Tony Stark. In the clip, Parker comes home to find Tony sitting on the couch with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei). Parker is surprised to see the famous billionaire playboy superhero sitting in living room and can only nod as Tony winks at him, clearly aware of his secret identity. Helping hide that secret from May (about whom Tony jokes, “It’s hard to believe she’s anyone’s aunt”), Stark pretends that Peter applied for a special program with Stark Industries and has been selected.***
Scripted by Vacation writers and directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein, Spider-Man Homecoming is also confirmed to star Zendaya as another lead character named Michelle. It will hit regular theaters and IMAX on July 7, 2017.

Michael Keaton Eyed to Play Villain in ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’
Michael Keaton could be returning to the superhero universe — but this time, as a villain.
Sources tell Variety that Keaton is in early talks to play a villain in the Marvel and Sony co-production “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” starring Tom Holland as the latest Spidey.
Marvel and Sony had no comment on the casting.
For Keaton, it also marks a switch from DC Comics to Marvel. The Oscar nominee famously played the Caped Crusader in Tim Burton’s “Batman” in 1989, causing his career to skyrocket.
Marisa Tomei is currently set to play Aunt May, and Zendaya is also on board in a mystery role. The villain Keaton is being eyed to play is also being kept under wraps.
Jon Watts is directing the film from a script by John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein. Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal are producing the movie, which focuses on a teenage Peter Parker’s high school days.
Plot details are still being heavily guarded.
Holland’s Spider-Man will first make an appearance in the upcoming “Captain America: Civil War,” with a standalone pic bowing on July 7, 2017. Production is expected to start this summer.
Keaton was recently seen in “Birdman” and “Spotlight,” which both took home Oscars for best picture. Keaton also earned a best actor nomination for “Birdman.” He can next be seen in “The Founder” as McDonald’s founder Ray Kroc.

Since the rumor is the villain will be the Vulture, Keaton makes a lot of sense. Could be good

You never know who you'll run into in Vegas. Sometimes the people you run into will have some interesting information. Like about Spider-Man: Homecoming, for instance.
Yes, I was told, that's the title they're working with at the moment. I think it'll be the title. We may even see the title treatment later today, when Sony presents their next year's slate at CinemaCon (which is happening here in Vegas, and is why I'm in Vegas). But what we may not hear officially announced yet is this:
The Vulture will be in this movie. Will he be the main baddie? Will he be a villain Spidey has to defeat in an opening scene? I don't know, although old rumors that passed by my ears indicated a non-main villain role for the old bird.
Sam Raimi had wanted to do the Vulture back when he was running the franchise, but he ended up first getting stuck with Venom and then having the series rebooted out from under him. I wonder how much the inclusion of the Vulture is an eff you to old Avi Arad, the once-producer on the series and a guy who I understand wasn't keen on the character.
The inclusion of the Vulture at all makes me happy. For one thing, I like the idea of a very young Peter Parker going up against a very old Adrian Toomes. I like the Silver Age aspect of this, one of the sillier but also most famous Spider-Man villains. And I like the idea of an aerial foe who will be able to get Spidey swinging and leaping around - if Captain America: Civil War is any indication, Marvel (who is producing the film for Sony) has this aspect of the character nailed.

I like The Vulture idea. That guy used to scare me as a kid. The Goblin too.
