Default Blues Jam - quick excerpt

Making my way back from injury, currently at about 70-75% (so stuck in 3rd gear still) but at a stronger point than I've been all year. Improvised over a G blues track and liked what I was hearing so hit record on my iPhone. No inputs - just recording everything in the room, including my cat, Jericho (pictured) meowing right at the end As some of you have been wanting to hear more from me this is an excerpt from the full 2m 45 jam.

    Great jammin'!
You sound 100% too me. Glad to hear you're recovering.
I hear ya, I had a tendon issue in my index finger that sidelined me for two months.
Man, that sucked! Almost full power now, though.

That sounded really good, Justin !
Glad you're on the road to recovery, and always a treat to hear your playing. Cool stuff and some wicked licks in there. Kudos for sharing, Mate! .

Third gear sounds pretty damned good. That lick at the very top of the track was fire too.

Thanks guys. The fluidity is definitely back hence why I feel good and hope to be back in tip top soon. It's a horrible balancing act: I have to practice to shake the rust but too much and I aggravate the injury and need to lay off so I usually end up stuck in the Groundhog Day of rusty as hell. Right now, the strength between my 3rd and 4th fingers isn't that much better than a beginner so no legato from them for a while!

Because of your nice words, I've gone against my better judgement and posted the rest of the clip. I felt like I was really beginning to motor but still conscious on my limitations. At times I wanted to stray a little but knew I was keeping plates spinning as it was so pushing it any further and everything would come crashing down - so no huge position shifts or modal interplay. Major and minor blues with the odd diatonic and chromatic lick, that's all. There was one run I did and halfway through I felt my left hand start to cramp up - the guitar equivalent of farting but slightly following through and hoping to get to the bathroom asap before it smears in your pants!

And just to show that I'm not doing the usual guitarist self-deprication when I say I'm at reduced capability, I've refrained from the urge to edit out a mispicked scalar run right at the end (1m 21s- 1m 23s). God knows what my picking hand was doing but it moved a fraction away from the strings and so you heard a scuffed effect. Ahh, fuck it, its only 70%

Edit: I'm disappointed that my Eddie lick at 55-57 seconds - where he bends a note on the B strong and trem picks the same note on the E - doesn't come through the mix.

Yeah, I put the head phones on but that Ed lick is still buried. Too bad. That was the perfect time for it, too.

LOL. The part at 1:21 was one of my favs. I know it was a disaster but it still sounded cool.

    Really love the riff, BTW.

    Oh, for fuck's sake!

Your "recuperating" sounds like my "I've been working on this for awhile."

But as for recuperating - deffo been working on that for a long time. The jam was recorded after about 5 mins of jamming and all improv. Happy to do a live demo - via Skype or whatever - and you can call out what you want me to do (chromatics, major, minor, Phrygian, speed picking high up the bneck, legato down a single string etc) as often as you like.

    Awesome playing!
I've said before that you have mad skills, and are one of the best players I've seen & heard on here. Quite outstanding, considering... A definite asset to the site. Cheers.

Just in case anyone is hazy as to what I meant, I mean Blofeld's playing as he is recovering from a hand injury sounds better than what I could do at full health with 10,000 hours of practice.

    That's better than me.

I could sit and play 24/7 and I'm never going to be able to play some of that stuff - my fingers just won't move that fast.

I know what both of you guys meant, and I'm in the same boat! Makes me sympathetic to guys like Page, Perry, et al. when Eddie hit the scene outside of his local area in '78...
