Default :::Am I The Only One Who Feels Like This Is Playing Out Like A Bad Rumor?

"Do we need a thread highlighting this?"

(Sadly, there isn't much else to discuss)

    ***

Everyone's expressed their opinions on the way that Wolf has handled the release of his music, but this thread seeks to get away from the opinion (technical/business) aspect of things.

On the basis of sheer emotion: does anyone else feel like Wolf's July 3rd announcement is playing out like a bad rumor?

    https://twitter.com/WolfVanHalen/sta...40933338963968

The above announcement *feels* to me, like it's playing out as would a much hyped, but unsubstantiated, rumor.

    It's really that bad.

I can't ever remember an artist putting forth official pieces of information that were seen to be so suspect by their fans, that fans are left feeling in their gut that their work will never see the light of day.

I think Wolf is more in love with the idea of releasing his opus, instead of actually doing it.

Without releasing it, you can build into the fantasy: It's amazing! Years of hard work & it's
everything i had hoped. Wait until you hear it. Those that have, think it's incredible.
    Wow. It's done!

It's like Cabo and the women he works with:

Texting all night, gorgeous ass, gonna happen, i'm in, the vibe is saying GO! GO! GO!

    Ahh well...Sister seems pretty hot.

Even Julian Lennon got off the pot & released "Valotte."

Wolf needs to realize his public is turning on him.
They were in his corner, but like the old "Rumor" thread, the angry birds are
    getting restless.

He senses it, so he fights it with millennial snark.

Bad move, because then they really turn on you.

You gotta keep them on your side, feed them scraps (a song or two),
be humble, yet confident & informative.

I dunno...there's a part of me that agrees with your point, but...

Where's he going with all of this? The logical conclusion was that he would eventually spread his wings, and (maybe) start a band of his own. On his social media pages, I remembered him saying something to the effect of: 'bass player for Van Halen, for now.'

Seemingly anyone can recover from any gaffe nowadays, but how do you build up a solo project, drop the ball, and then face the public as if nothing ever took place?

I have no interest in Wolf's so-called album.

I'm much more interested in the forthcoming album from The Circle, or the unreleased DLR/John 5 recordings.
“And what we have at our fingertips is arguably one of the greatest high tenor voices ever – that was in Michael Anthony. In our tiny little corner of the universe, that voice is as identifiable as the high voice in Earth, Wind & Fire, as identifiable as the high voice in the Beach Boys. Van Halen is an indelicate house blend of both – that’s intentionally. So I would always look forward to that reunion.” - David Lee Roth

David Lee Roth, Edward Van Halen, Michael Anthony, Alex Van Halen, Sammy Hagar.

Nobody cares. He isn't known enough for anyone to care. His last name is not going to do it. His own father's last 'album' flopped. The brand name ain't enough.

Of course, if he WANTS to, he could change that.

    By touring.

Nothing else will register his music as more than a blip. Playing gigs is how his Dad got there. It's how Dave and Sam and Al and Mike got there.

I dunno why anyone...the kid included...can think otherwise.

Who is his potential audience? A few old farts that like his dads band? Who else?

I can’t even imagine what the game plan is for this album and/or his career.

Because times have changed MASSIVELY. Its been 40 years since his dad, Dave, Sam, Al & Mike got there and things are very different. he is not going to be shooting for the approval and endorsement of 40-60yo men who fawn over his Dad. He needs the acknowledgement of his contemporaries. The modern way is the way that Plini, David Maxim Micic, James Norbert Ivanyi, Martin Miller, Tom Quayle and the rivers of popular new artists are forging and it is via release and massive social media publicity. Not through touring. Touring is ultimately where you make money but only after establishing a worldwide following via social media.

Unfortunately with Wolfy, who I genuinely hope he makes it, he doesnt seem to have the trust or know how to make the media work for him.

@NDL... you've been here since March 2004. I'd figure you'd be a Jedi Master at spotting a Van Halen bad rumor™ by now! It's a bit tricky because even factual information regarding this band is suspect even after confirmed 10 fold...

It's unfortunate, but WVH's primary mentors, benefactors and advisers in the music business have a long track record of mismanagement and turning simple PR elements that should generate and maintain goodwill among a very forgiving fan base into shit samiches with no effort at all.

If the kid can step out from the shadow... consult with his contemporaries and find the courage to forge out on his own merits... who knows, great things could follow! The legacy he built with his dad has very short legs and it's doubtful he can reach the bar of success on his own, now, given the lost opportunities he's wasted while that iron was hot...
Woke up this mornin, got Blue Moon in your eyes...

We'll find out. I know one thing, he didn't write an album to appease his dad's fan base. Maybe the kid is just like his dad where he takes forever to do something unless he gets kicked in the ass.

He may also be a perfectionist. Eddie had to be convinced to release the version of "Eruption" we hear on the debut. Hell, it wasn't even his idea to put it on the album to begin with. He's not the most savvy guy on earth.

Eddie released the six pack in the time Wolf has taken.

Put in the camp that doesn’t care and never did care about this album.
