This is a trick question. Most will say Randy when it's Jake. This is not a matter of opinion or taste but of fact.

    I can't get past Rhoads's "tinny" tone.

And if we’re picking “favoites” it’s Randy Rhoads by a billion miles for me. Jake E. Lee is second, and the rest including Iommi never did much for me as players.

Jake, just ahead of Brad Gillis.

CC is right, Rhoads' tone is shit. It was when he was in QR, too. That, among other things, is why its laughable anyone could even think he compares to Ed.

BlofeldsCat is an amazing guitar player and I'm sure he's forgotten more than I will ever know about the guitar, but I still prefer Randy to Jake. I would be interested to hear why he thinks Jake is so much better than Randy was, though.

I don’t care who is a better guitar player than me. We all have our tastes. I don’t think anyone needs to apologize or feel bad for choosing something that someone else doesn’t like. Thankfully not everybody likes the same thing, would make for a pretty boring world.

Jake E. Lee is great I just don’t find him as interesting as RR, and I think Ozzy’s best stuff is on his first two albums.

Can anyone honestly say his tone sucks on this?

This is the only website I know of that continues to bash Randy Rhoads post after post. It’s weird.

It’s like you guys have created some made up competition with Ed because they both played the same scene. One has nothing to do with the other.

IMO, Diary Of A Madman is easily Ozzy's best solo album. I like Jake way more than Zakk, but, IMO, No More Tears is better than any Ozzy album with Jake.

With Ed, you had a guy literally obsessed with tone. I never got the impression that that facet of his craft was very important. I could be wrong. Did he talk about it?
