    Default Aerosmith or Lynyrd Skynyrd?

Both bands were pretty dominant American rock and roll bands around the same time in the 70ís. Iím more of a Skynyrd fan, but still love classic Aerosmith. Curious as to how this will play out.

I like them both, but Aerosmith is one of my all time faves.

Tough call - when Aerosmith was great, they were one of the best. But they were allowed to become a charicature of themselves that even Al Hirschfeld couldn’t have imagined. Lynyrd Skynyrd never got that chance - to me they seemed to be poised to hit a new peak when that plane went down (and I don’t count anything that doesn’t have Ronnie’s vocals) - a plane that had almost been chartered by Aerosmith.

Iíd agree that Skynyrd never got to be old, and some might think that part of their popularity is because they ended too soon and so tragically. But when I listen to their catalog, Iím always reminded of how much better they are than I remember. Some of my favorites are Saturday Night Special, Comin Home, Call Me The Breeze, Curtis Loew, You Got That Right (just worked that one out on guitar; really fun song to play).

I love Aerosmith; No More No More, Uncle Salty, and Adams Apple are among my favorites. Hard choice, but Iíd have to go with Skynyrd. I love Allen and Gary, and Ed really brought something special when he joined, as did Steve.

I chose 70's Aerosmith, my second fave band of all time, but i LOVE Ronnie Van Zandt
    and Skynyrd.

Ronnie was one in a billion, he just had it.
I loved that he was tough & an outlaw, but also really thoughtful & sensitive with
    some of his lyrics.

I loved his voice, the effortless swagger, the little southern add-libs "over here," or the
    whistle.

Both Skynyrd & Aerosmith had that sexy, behind the beat kinda riffing/rhythm.
They never sounded uptight, but confident and loose at the same time.

I even loved Rossington/Collins, post plane crash.

Listen to that dropped D riff in "Don't misunderstand me," so classic.
And the leads they play throughout, they just strut.

If it's just their first 5 albums, then Aerosmith by a country mile. But when you factor in the absolute garbage that is EVERYTHING Aerosmith has done since about 1993, then it becomes a toss up.

Yeah, they literally became a cartoon version of what they were, especially Tyler.

I love every album straight through RUTS (such a killer, heavy record), and i even enjoy
the creepy, drugged out vibe of "Rock in a hard place."

But as soon as they started singing about Dudes lookin' like ladies & Janie, i was
    turned off immediately.

Closer than I would have predicted after I thought about it.

Love mostly Toys in the Attic from Aerosmith. But boy I really love that album.

Love various songs from LS without ever buying an album.

This song features guitar playing that Aerosmith couldn't touch on their best day:

Aerosmith...but just barely. That stuff post Run DMC really brought them down in my eyes.

    Aerosmith, by a wide margin.

Kings & Queens on its own is better than Skynyrd's entire discography.

I have nothing against Skynyrd, but this shouldn't be a serious contest.
