What the hell... has medical research worked on this... like analyzed Sam's DNA??!?! The guy is 71 for chrissakes, he's only like 3 years younger than my dad. I'm puzzled. How can he still perform at this level?!?!?! They need to start making sammy potions to fight aging. We all need some of that Sammy mojo!!

That was very cool to see and hear, and just reinforces how much I'd love to see Sammy & Mike play again with the VH brothers! Vic actually did a good job here and put his own spin on the tune, while not butchering it.

Sammy sounded more than just good - he looks and sounds great for his age!
Surprisingly for me, I thought the worst part of the clip was Mikey! Not overall, yet the vocals on the '"Love" part of the chorus was sung higher than it should be. Everything sounded fine until the last word - Love - which was raised in pitch. Weird...

Nice video for the most part.

Just wondering where all the 'Oh, honest, I don't hate Sammy!' posters are?

Maybe you should be pleased that there aren't any "that sucks" posters? Just a thought.

Nah... Roth sucks on every level now, and I will agree to disagree with those who feel/post differently.

    Whatever.

If Roth sang the same way the same suspects would be talking about how horrible it was.

Even the mighty Mikey was flat on the backing vocals.

That's cool though. Keep trying to stir shit up. That's all some people are good here for.

I actually thought Sammy did really good here. Even Vic, who even mimed Ed's intro melody from the RHRN days. And yup, I thought that Mike's backup vox were off at a certain spot in the choruses, which I mentioned above ^^^.

I got goosebumps from the crowd reaction (yes, many people still want to see & hear these songs live) when they started playing, and Sam & Mike joining for the 'I love you' hand signal. I was impressed by this video, overall.

Don't get me wrong, it wasnt horrible. It's about what I would expect from guys that age.

But let's be honest, if Wolf hit those notes on Women In Love he'd get crucified by some people for his lousy backing vocals. And to my ears Sam's performance wasnt much different than what you get from Dave these days, he misses some notes and can't sing like he did when he was younger, which again is to be expected.

I apologize for starting more Sam v. Dave shit in this thread, but slobbering all over oneself about how awesome this performance was is a little over the top IMO.

Couldn't tell, but do they use in-ears or wedge monitors? A lot of vocal clams happen because a singer can't hear himself.

    Regardless, I've heard worse.
But I like "Hot Dog and a Shake." - marksound, 1988

Exactly. The double standard is amusing. This is why I'm staying out of this thread, except to agree with you. This isn't much different than what one gets from old rock singers past their prime. Not a bad performance, but not great either. Cool, that Sam guys love it, they can enjoy it without Dave guys coming in in droves and shitting all over it. Too bad that will never happen in any Van Halen thread or Dave solo performance thread.

I don't know why some ppl came to make it a Sam/Dave thing. It wasn't.
When I say Sam is amazing, I'm comparing him to 95% of guys at that age. Like the general population. It's not directed at Roth, mainly because ROTH IS NOT 71!!!!
In 2025, when DLR is 71, we can come back to this video, and A/B what Roth will sound like with this Sam vid. I must add that although some think he can do no wrong, Dave made the conscious decision to continue smoking cigarettes TO THIS DAY. So yes, Dave will most likely NOT be at Sam's level when he's 71, IF HE'S STILL ALIVE!
