Default High e String a Little too Close to the Edge

I remember seeing this topic being discussed a while back, but I couldn’t find the conversation when I searched for it.

My Wolfgang Standard’s high e string is a little closer to the edge of the neck than I prefer. I can live with it, but sometimes it messes me up when I'm playing a lot on the high e.

If my memory is serving me correctly, I thought I read someone here giving some direction on how to remedy this condition.

Any details you can share on how to fix this issue are greatly appreciated.

I remember the thread. I thought everyone sent the guitar back for a warranty issue.
Only solution I know of would be to change the width of the FR nut. That may not be too easy considering it's thru the neck if I remember right. I have an EVH standard but haven't touched it in over a year.....
I will say my Standard seems fine. It's all the cheap ass electronics that suck....

Loosen the neck bolts, pull neck in desired direction and hold there while tightening the bolts.

Scotty....were you jumping off your amps again, LOL!
    The dreaded neck shift.

Like CalFB said, just shift it back over.

(Usually I just yank it back over, looking for a screwdriver is too much like work for me )

I had the same issue with one of my Wolfs....

Checkout post #9 in this thread. Rob explains it perfectly...

I did the loosen the neck bolts and hold the neck in direction you need it to go while re-tightening the bolts. That is one thing I cannot tolerate on a guitar and one of the first things I look for when buying a set neck guitar. I've seen a few set necks that would have no easy fix. Yours should be easy.

This is probably a dumb question, but I assume you have to loosen the string tension before loosening the neck bolts?

Not necessarily. I have this issue on my Frankie from time to time. I loosen the screws by a turn or two to where I can shimmy the neck back and forth in the pocket ever so slightly. Then I pull it in the direction where it needs to go and re-tighten. When I do that I usually have to re-tune the guitar as the strings are now at different tension than they were before.

Either way you're likely to have to tune it up when you're done.
CNN may think my opinion matters, but you shouldn't.

I dont loosen the strings, just barely loosen neck bolts, shift, re-tighten. Then re- tune. Should only need to be done once.

Also, when you say the high e is too close to the edge, is there a larger space on the low e string side? Make sure it is really misaligned before messing with it.

It worked! I did loosen the strings a little before I made the neck adjustment.

The high e wasn’t that far off, it was a very minor issue, I only really noticed it on certain runs on the high e. The low e was fine and not a noticeable misalignment.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone! Been playing guitar all morning and into the afternoon.

The high E alignment issue is something I'm always conscious of when shopping for guitars. I've seen some ridiculous looking photos on eBay (several Wolfgang guitars as well!) and even bought a trans red Sterling SUB AX4 that had that problem, as well as faulty wiring... Try to get photos the show the neck straight on - not from a slightly sideways camera angle - and make sure the black dot fret markers are dead center between the D & G strings. This is usually a good starting point for having the strings properly laying across the neck.

yep this...... loosen them and then give a sharp and direct tug to the neck while you cradle the body between your knees. That will move to where you need it and then tighten them back up.

    litterally a 45 second fix....

    Hey, Rob.
    Great tip and obviously it works. I posed this question in the Random Guitar Sh*t thread;

What's the best way to install Floyd Rose studs and bushings into a blank body? The holes were pre drilled by Warmoth. Just want as many opinions as possible. I've read about clamps, using a drill press, using a hammer etc.

    Thanks.
