Some of the beaches were less defended than others. Some got lucky, others less so. It's amazing how important the movie "Saving Private Ryan" has been in terms of making us understand the incredible challenges these guys faced. Before that movie, you had the impression that D-Day was just a great victory, a triumph. The focus was on the end result, not the process.

Me at George Patton Memorial Museum on I-10 east of Palm Springs. Excellent I thought. In memorial of the Desert Training Center, huge desert expanse just to the north where American artillery units trained in 42-early 44 for war in Europe. Check this out if you ever blow by on I-10. At Chiriaco Summit.

Patton came from the next town to where I live. Weird they didn't make a museum in his hometown.

Had his faults, but the man was a bad ass.

Wonder what he would think of this:

If I don't respond to you it means I have you on ignore, which means you are a douchenozzle.

Emperor Brett - "I can't believe you guys are analyzing song-by-song Van Halen III? What next, analyzing the script of Stroker Ace looking for some shred of Citizen Kane?"

David Lee Roth did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it!

A man's rights rests in three boxes: the ballot box, the jury box, and the cartridge box

He was the right guy at the right time and it's supernatural. Of course without air power and artillery his tanks sucked. But they moved fast and he never held his position he always advanced. He would have been in Berlin months before the Red Army. But they stopped his advance.

He wouldn't be in today's military and I bet there are lots of guys living right now who should be and aren't for the same reasons.

He might do well in the Ukranian army, nowadays. That's a war made for him.

Yeah he hated Russians more than nazis. The man was a natural born killer. His voice didn't fit his personality. Just be glad he was on our side.

He did hold his black servicemen in high regard I believe. Most however were in supply and maintenance. The army did have some black tankers. I’m not sure they were in Patton’s 3rd army tho.

He had some black tank battalions under his command towards the end of the war.

One of his basic speeches he gave to black soldiers was "I don't give a damn what color you are as long as you are a good soldier and you kill those Kraut sons of bitches". Something like that.

I'll put this here. We've all seen this scene a million times but it's still probably one of the greatest monologues in cinematic history. Can't believe Shaw didn't win an Oscar.

So I discovered this new channel on You Tube called Arlington National Cemetary. Its pretty cool covers most of the funerals etc. The former head of the USMC was recently laid to rest and a Pearl Harbor death was finally identified and recently buried.

But I was amazed to see how the honor guard are so overweight these days. My mothers brother was a USMC honor guard in the late 1950s there he's probably rolling over in his grave. Time for weight watchers in Arllington. I hope this isn't prevelant in the entire military?
    10-6-2020 RIP King of sixstrings.
