During Saturday morning Mass, our retired in-residence priest mentioned the Pope’s comments during his homily. I will paraphrase his comments in bullet form:

• The comments released in advance of the movie were taken out of context.
• The subject was concerning something happening in Argentina while the Pope was an Archbishop.
• No one in the Church magisterium is suggesting that civil unions are good.
• The Church would never adopt a position that would lead people into sin.

So some people are saying that they agree with the Pope but according to my Parish at least, they would be adopting a sinful, un-loving position. That’s the whole problem that’s created over and over again by this Pontiff. He suggests a position that contradicts the Catechism….some of the faithful agree/like his position and then they are defacto adopting a sinful position. It’s all bad.

Lol...I find this more funny than scandalous to be honest. No matter who was responsible, it's refreshing to know boys will be boys no matter where they are. More specifically, given the recent reputation the Vatican has, let's all be thankful it was a woman.

Seriously though, I'm sure there's a number of people who have access to the Pope's IG account. I don't think Francis is there cycling through IG photos in his down time and liking random things. It was probably someone who forgot to log out after posting something on his behalf.

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - St. Peter’s Square in the Vatican has hosted a few unorthodox nativity scenes over the years, but this season’s entry looks like it came from outer space.

The futuristic ceramic crèche - which includes an astronaut and a character reminiscent of Darth Vader from Star Wars - has received so many terrible reviews that, if it were a Broadway play, it probably would have closed on opening night.

Some social media users - perhaps in keeping with the prevailing mood of 2020 - called it disturbing or lacking reassurance.

Others were more scathing.

“What in the name of sane Christianity have they created in the piazza in the Vatican,” tweeted A.A. Michelangelo. “... Words (are) inadequate for this horrific creation which must have come from the planet Zog”.

For others closer to home, the decision to use it at the end of 2020 of all years was particularly irksome.

“With this global pandemic and everything else the Christian people, or anyone for that matter, was expecting a sign of rebirth,” said Alfredo Chiarelli, 65, who has been selling religious items in the square for 30 years.

“It has confused and saddened a lot of people,” he told Reuters.
