I can understand some fans being turned off by the sheer mention of Dave vs Sam.

But speaking personally, I think Sam has told a lot of tall tales over the years about his numbers vs Dave, so I think just laying it out there in actual black-and-white numbers is fair enough and valid. Speaking for myself, I find it interesting. I know others might not agree, but just my opinion.

And I promise I'm not just biased cos they gave my YouTube stuff another excellent plug 😅

And I would respectfully say so? Fair enough and valid? No but OK. There's an expiration date for everything under the sun. When do comments Sam has made in the past ever die? When do we as fans say enough of the comparison? I'm gonna guess you have a preference for CVH, yeah? Just by your "tall tales" comment. That's what keeps this shit going ad infinitum.

Enough is enough. If I were Brett, I wouldn't even allow this shit anymore but thankfully, he's more patient than I am.

Here’s the thing, everyone knows the numbers. What numbers are a mystery to anybody?

This shit has been beat to death ad nauseam for what 40 years now?

Yes, the Dave records have sold more than the Sammy records. No Van Halen fan is arguing any of this. And who fucking cares anyway?

I don’t understand why any of it is “interesting.” It’s just seems like a reason to rail on Sam for saying he sold more records than he did. How many fucking times does it need to keep getting brought up? Who cares how many times he has said it? We ALL know the truth. It’s a Dave-only fan argument just to stoke some silly Sam/Dave bs.

And the bottom line is the success of Sammy’s era of Van Halen only helped to sell records for CVH. So absolutely you can attribute some of the success of those early records to the post-Dave success. And a lot of younger fans only discovered Van Halen after Sammy joined. So fans like that all went back and purchased the early records. And if you’re arguing against any of that, then I’ve got nothing for you.

It's a way of keeping that era "alive" in some small way, I suppose. A reminder of it's greatness when you just had Sam come off a highly successful tour (his most in years) playing a lot of VH.

The possibility of more of that next year.

That AL book can't get here fast enough.

I just don’t understand what new revelation there’s going to be in comparing the sales numbers? We all fucking know what sold more. It’s been discussed a million fucking times. Lol.

It’a almost on the level of the “Ed played drums, and Al played guitar first” revelation.

I get it that some people are a bit annoyed that Sam’s tour wasn’t a complete flop, sold a lot of tickets, people enjoyed it, and the performances were great. Dave and Al could’ve done it, but they chose not to. Much more the Van Halen way.

I just don’t understand bringing up this dead horse. Clearly you and I agree on this CC.

Well, yeah I am more of a CVH fan. Nothing personal against Sam and I do like some stuff from that era too. But even if I wasn't, I don't think it's unfair or baseless to say that Sam has exaggerated things with regard to the numbers. This is just something he does, and it's provable. Doesn't mean Sammy sucks or I have anything personal against him.

Like I said earlier, I can totally understand if you're fed up with debate and comparison between the eras. I get that. And I guess maybe saying that Sam has exaggerated some things is also well-worn to fans who debate this stuff everyday. Fair enough.

All that said, I think being so offended by what I said and calling for it to be banned is way, way over the top.

Let's just agree to disagree and I'll leave it there.

I love both eras equally and and can not stand the stupid debates between the two. When I put on VH in my car, I just cue up both remastered collections and shuffle it all. It's rare that I just pick one album and listen to it all the way through, unless it's a live show or something like that. I'm not a big fan of III but will listen to it every once in a great while. If I really want to hear Gary VH, I usually tend to go for a live show like the pro recorded Pennsylvania show.

I will say this though. While I still love both the Sam and Dave eras of VH, both singers have gotten on my nerves over the years. Everyone here used to always do the STFU Sam and at first I didn't think too much about it. Over the years though I get it as his comparisons have been pretty ridiculous. At the same time though, Dave has said some pretty nutty things and released questionable songs from his vault. I mean who is seriously going to listen to him doing classic VH songs with a half assed cover band backing him up. I don't care who recorded those to tunes, it will never compare to the original ones by a long shot. That's also different to me if Dave had released live clips from his DLR Band says. I mean actually going to a studio, even if it is your own to record classic VH is a no go for me. Makes no sense whatsoever.

THE EDDIE VAN HALEN TRIBUTE CONCERT THAT ALMOST WAS

EPISODE #106 – It’s been four years since Edward Van Halen passed away and no tribute concert has ever been mounted. However, Derek Fuller, the lead guitarist of the VH tribute band Fan Halen, tried his best. A massive amount of VH News and a solid mailbag segment completes this October 2024 episode.

ALEX VAN HALEN’S “BROTHERS” BOOK BONANZA

EPISODE #107 – We’ve waited all year and now it’s here…Alex Van Halen’s book, “Brothers” has dropped. Loud Dave does a full report from the Oct. 21 AVH book signing at Barnes & Noble in Manhattan where he paints a picture of the scene, interviews various fans and even has a brief encounter with VH’s drummer. This is followed by the Daves’ in-depth discussion about the book and Alex’s “Live Talks from Los Angeles” interview with co-author Ariel Levy. Plenty of tasty VH News and a strong mailbag segment complete this November 2024 episode.

That picture of AL ^^^ is bugging me. .

His t-shirt. The collar is all stretched af. I find it hard to find tight collared shirts too. I guess it's one's physique or whatever, but that's why I hate wearing t shirts. Only lounging around the house otherwise all button up shirts.
