There’s already an ongoing investigation by the DOJ. They raided the home of former DOJ official, Jeffery Clark, last week. This is the guy who hatched a plan with Trump to appoint him AG and he had a letter drafted and ready to send to Georgia telling them the DOJ had found irregularities in votes for Biden and should rescind their certification of Biden as the winner (all totally untrue). He said he planned to do this as soon as appointed and WH Counsel told him he’d be committing felonies on day 1, then. Trump started referring to him as acting AG in internal communications. But in a late meeting in the Oval Trump was told there’d be massive resignations in the DOJ and WH Counsel office if he did and he decided not to.

They also confiscated John Eastman’s, Trump’s personal lawyer, devices around the same time. This is the guy who wrote the memo for the White House that Pence had the authority to throw out electors and overturn the election, which is the plan they ultimately put into action.

So whatever this committee does, the DOJ is already serving warrants and seizing things.
