Despite what many here assume, I'm unsure of my direction at the moment.

I was speaking to looking at things objectively and civilly, as opposed to dogmatic party rancor/talking points.

I know that with you Chris, you acknowledged that Sanders had a couple of good points in his campaign. This is what I speak to: objectivity verses assumption, suspicion, etc.

The key difference in the approach is acknowledging that while everyone wants to get from point A to point B, we all have different ways to get there. The issue isn't in the differences that we hold; the issue is when someone accuses another with suspicion or malfeasance, simply because of a difference of opinion.

Personal choice isn't the issue; the issue is the way in which we view people and solutions.

There's objectivity in both of y'all's posts.

What I speak to, however, is a person who cannot find agreement with their opponent, *simply because* they're wearing a label that they assigned to their opponent. There's no thinking with such a person; everything is a knee jerk reaction. I see that type of thinking in threads like these, and it's not good.

Example: If JFK was literally reincarnated from the dead, many of today's Republicans wouldn't vote for him simply because he was a Democrat. For the same reason, many people couldn't give Clinton credit, when he balanced the budget.

Trump kept us out of new wars; the economy bolted forward; consumer confidence was at a high, yet some can't objectively look at his accomplishments. To such people, his personality flaws colored their perception of his accomplishments, to the point of irreconcilability. And Jan 6 had nothing to do with it, because they hated him long before the 6th.

The main issue with such people is not how they view 45, but how they view people of a different political persuasion.

Trump didn't become an enemy of the Democrats until the day he signed on as a Republican.

That would happen with either side.

If JFK came back to life and was the same man Iíd vote for him in a second. My first election I was allowed to vote in was bush v gore. I voted bush.

The parties as they stand right now are deplorable. The democrats bully and try and MAKE you vote for what they want. Be it, ad bombardment or veiled threats. Republicans are more coy and smart. They err on the side of more liberty and less intrusion,( patriot act was a misstep) and more money for you and less government intrusion.

I like the latter. Theyíre all deeply flawed. But earlier this week I sat down with my abacus and did some math that saw my bills rise over 17k this year. From EVERYTHING. Think about that, in early august I have spent 17 thousand extra dollars on food, clothes, paper, astroglide, gas, drugs and most importantly, Coca Cola.

At this rate Iím gonna start smoking camels again because the future doesnít look rosy. Only thing about that is that THEYíRE 8 BUCKS A PACK NOW.

So yeah, give me a democrat that will lower my bills. Iíll
Vote for them in a second.

True, but I speak to the vitriol from some posters: it's one thing to have a difference of opinion; it's another to disagree, but with anger.

Another poster on this thread spoke of his neighbor, whose house had a political sign in his front yard. A passing motorist pulled in front of the house, and cussed the house out. Totally irrational. Anger laden.

Up until the early 90's, such animosity was not seen between Americans; it was a matter of "he/she has a different way to get to point B than me." Today, however, assumptions are made upon someone's motives and character, simply because the view that they hold might be different.
