Fact Check: Did Trump Raise Prescription Drug Prices?

    Bottom line:
    Needs Context.

Trump's rescission of Biden's order is unlikely to immediately increase the cost of prescription drugs for Medicare and Medicaid recipients. However, it could potentially make it easier for drug companies to raise prices in the future, although the extent and the timing of any impact is unclear.

From what I read yesterday, the Biden order that Trump axed seemed to only investigate possible ways to lower costs. Nothing was ever implemented. Not sure since it's all like Greek to me. edv would know if anyone.

It most definitely will. Thousands of US citizens already get caught up and deported and end up in a country they have never been to, with no connection to, and with no recourse to come back to the only country they know, their own.

You didn't quote it from 47, but the birthright citizenship thing, that also could lead to incredible outcomes because people aren't thinking through not only what it actually means, but what sort of things that kind of thinking could lead to. First and foremost, we are all citizens due to birthright citizenship. The reason our birth certificates are proof of our citizenship is because of birthright citizenship. Nothing more, nothing less.

Just as it stands right now, based upon the actual executive order, I would be surprised if every single defense attorney currently representing anyone in federal court who is not a citizen or a lawful permanent resident hasn't already filed a motion to dismiss charges based upon the fact that their client is not "subject to the jurisdiction of the United States." Would love to see the Department of Justice response to that. if they are not subject to our jurisdiction, they are not required to obey our laws.

'FEMA is not good:' Trump announces agency overhaul during visit to North Carolina

Trump also signaled some reforms may be underway to the Federal Emergency Management Agency

    January 24, 2025 12:02pm EST

President Donald Trump said he plans to overhaul the Federal Emergency Management Agency as North Carolina still recovers from Hurricane Helene – more than 120 days after the storm struck the state.

"I'll also be signing an executive order to begin the process of fundamentally reforming and overhauling FEMA, or maybe getting rid of FEMA," Trump told reporters in North Carolina Friday morning. I think, frankly, FEMA is not good."

Trump also promised his administration would step in and assist North Carolina to fix the damage quickly, vowing to "do a good job" for the state.

"We're going to fix it, and we're going to fix it as fast as you can," Trump said. "It's a massive amount of damage. FEMA has really let us down. Let the country down. And I don't know if that's Biden's fault or whose fault it is, but we're going to take over. We're going to do a good job."

Trump also said he would like to see the states assume more responsibility when disaster strikes, arguing those familiar with the state are better equipped to provide disaster response and relief.

Trump also promised to work with three of the lawmakers whose areas were affected by Hurricane Helene, claiming that FEMA was "not on the ball" in assisting North Carolina in the aftermath of the hurricane.

"So we’re going to be doing something on FEMA that I think most people agree [with]," Trump said. "I’d like to see the states take care of disasters, let the state take care of the tornadoes and the hurricanes and all of the other things that happen. And I think you’re going to find it a lot less expensive. You’ll do it for less than half, and you’re going to get a lot quicker response."

So far, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers claim that only half of debris recovery for Hurricane Helene is complete. Additionally, thousands of families in North Carolina remain in hotels FEMA is footing the bill for under its Transitional Housing Assistance (TSA) program.

While these families were approaching a late January deadline that would have removed them from the hotels, FEMA announced this week it extended the deadline to May 26. In total, more than 3,000 families are eligible for the program extension.

"It's been a horrible thing the way that's been allowed to fester and we're going to get it fixed up," Trump told reporters at the White House Friday prior to departing for North Carolina. "It should have been done months ago from the hurricane that took place almost four months ago. North Carolina's been treated very badly so we're stopping there."

Trump said Wednesday in an exclusive interview with Fox News' Sean Hannity that "Democrats don’t care about North Carolina" and that’s why he would visit the state for his first official trip as president during his second term.

Trump is slated to visit California on Friday as well to survey the damage from wildfires that have ravaged the state this month.

"It looks like something hit it, we won’t talk about what hit it," Trump said. "But it is a bad, bad situation."

Yes if you want blame what is going on, look at the previous Admin who did everything in their power to let people come here illegally.

Yes some eggs will be broken and yes some innocents will likely be picked up. However lets be honest. Its not like ICE does a raid and transports them to the nearest airport. Put them on SR 71 which flies into Mexico, South America, etc and pushes people out the hatch with a parachute.

If a US Citizen is erroneously picked up, I am quite sure they will have an opportunity to prove their identity prior to being flown to their country of origin.

Can't simply prevent fixing a problem because a few people will get screwed. Its like saying we can't put people to trial because innocent people will be found guilty even though they are innocent.

Actually, no, they absolutely do not, and Trump wants it that way. Trump--and before him Bush and Obama, and before that the 1996 Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act--decreased and damn near got rid of most of the due process that is afforded to those caught up in deportation sweeps. (Also, it is illegal to detain US citizens in these raids.)

[I]n 2010 alone, over 4,000 U.S. citizens were detained or deported as aliens. Between 2003 and 2010, more than 20,000 Americans suffered the same fate . . .

. . . [T]hey are effectively assumed illegal until proven otherwise. What's more, the standard due process protections that are afforded to ordinary criminals aren't extended to suspected illegal immigrants. As Palma learned, people accused of a civil offense aren't entitled to court-appointed lawyers. Worse, suspected illegal immigrants aren't typically accorded individual trials. Instead, overworked immigration judges often hold mass hearings where they rubber-stamp the recommendations of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) attorneys.

Again, it's a fun narrative that the last administration just opened up the gates and said, "Come one, come all," but it's not remotely true. The emergency at the border actually started at the end of the Trump administration, follows job openings almost exactly, and was already well on the decline a year ago, at the lowest point in 4 years before Biden left office. Proof?

Biden came into office with border arrests already at a 21-year high. Arrests were rising quickly before Biden was even elected.

Removals had fallen by 50% by almost a year ago.

Border arrests versus job openings, 2020-2024. Unprecedented labor demand fueled the crisis. Monthly job openings versus monthly arrests. (Migrants in larger numbers than ever before knew about US job openings and how to get here with expanded access to the internet.)

120 actions Biden took to shut down the border, which is why the idea that he caused the crisis is simplistic and misguided. Many of these were actually more draconian and harsh than Trump's policies.

But this is all inconvenient when politics in this country is the way it is.

It's a shared responsibility, actually, which extends to both parties. You think there were ZERO that came in when Trump was Prez?

You're just nuts LM. If you really believe the last Admin didn't do everything possible to completely flood us with illegals, you're just nuts. I don't care what you google or how you aggregate your findings to point towards Biden being strict on immigration. It's just absolutely absurd!

The reform is, there will be a lot of strings attached and conditions to be met...let's face it, for the Democratic states...to receive aid.
