That's what I've always said. Mike was where he was asked to be. And he was certainly capable of noodling.

this is exactly what I always say. Not sure many younger generation bassists play like a true bass player. Most just come off as playing like guitar on 4 strings. not a knock on WVH. He's pretty darn good.

Default Chickenfoot LV vs. Van Halen Live In Tokyo

Mike did exactly what he needed to and what fit the songs. As a guitarist I'd much rather play over Mike than have to compete with a guy who plays like Wolf. And it isn't about talent. I love playing over a nice in the pocket groove and not having to compete for space in a song.

Shit, that's a lot of years of spitballing then. He asked Sheehan three (?) times and Billy said he was serious. I'm glad he didn't because whether he likes it or not Mikey was a key part of their sound. Btw, I wonder if it chaps his ass when people say that?

You and I should jam then! All I usually do is just keep the rhythm and make sure I define the chord changes. To me, that is my job. Others might tell me I am out of my mind and the bassist should do more, but that is all I really concentrate on when I create a bass line.

There is a article from a past GW where Edward basically say's the exact thing. That's why I don't believe he was ever really serious about replacing Mike with anyone. Schlitz Malt Liquor is a helluva shitty beer!

Well it does depend on the type of guitar player you're playing with as well.

Anyone who has ACTUALLY seen the Chickenfoot live DVD cannot even begin to compare these two. Now 'Live Without a Net' crushes the Foot dvd.

I agree. If Ed wanted him gone years ago, he would of been gone. Simple as that...
If you have nothing nice to say about Eddie Van Halen, you're at the right website. - Me (A few years ago)

"People take Van Halen much more seriously than we do" - David Lee Roth (1980's)

"I don't sit on the end of your bed while you're trying to make a living" - David Lee Roth (1988)

"For some reason people love to complain about everything. The internet has made it easy for people to do that. Shut the fuck up and get a life, or show me how good you can do it."- Edward Van Halen

"A lot of people ask me which Van Halen singer was better. You can't compare them. It's like asking which guitarist is better. Nobody is better than anybody. Every player is their own person."-Edward Van Halen

"I do like Eddie Van Halen as a player. He gets it right quite often." -Paul McCartney

I'm glad that Sheehan never accepted the offer. I believe he said that Mike was a good friend and that he was a fan of CVH. That it would have changed the sound. Paraphrasing. Think about it...you're being asked to join a band, to replace one of the nicest guys in the biz?

Sheehan had to be thinking...this ain't right.

I wish Trunk or any interviewer, who knows the history of the band...would ask Mike about that. Mike has never addressed the fact, that early on...Ed was trying to jettison him.

I think Eddie said a lot of stuff to a lot of people when on the sauce. Probably forgot about it the next day. Sure he asked Billy and probably others but that was when he was f'ed up. I remember an article where he talked to Pete Townsend about producing his solo album. Wrote Pete's phone number on a matchbook. Lost it. That was it for the project. Probably was at a party with him or something and it came up and that was it.

I think Eddie also was like DeNiro in Goodfellas where he wanted to kill that guy. However he was playing poker had a good time and then told Ray Liotta, "not tonight" Eventually though the guy did get whacked. Just not that one night.
