Default Tokyo Dome - Live in Concert - It's Official!!

This is my attempt to end all of the parallel threads on this topic and have one place to discuss the release which is finally, truly official. If you haven't seen it yet, the VH website is now updated...

    http://www.van-halen.com/

If an admin wants to delete this and start a truly official thread, I won't be insulted.

I don't know. Obviously I'm buying it for completist sakes, but wow it's just not good. Couldn't they have given Mike his cut and just released something from 1978-1984? I'd rather hear any of that with all the flaws than this. Sorry guys I just don't get this move.

Man you guys got your toys all over the place.

Gonna post this in the Official Thread Jedi:

There's no good reason to highlight that at all.
What on earth would be the point of "sticking it" to Dave?

    The end of the band??

Someone said this in one of the other threads, but I wonder if he just refused to redo his vocals and the brothers just went along with it. I'm not sure how that happens but I have to believe that they encouraged him to touch things up a bit. I don't buy into the idea that they released it to hurt their singer as that just makes no sense. The VH name is on the product so I can't see them using it as a tool to send out some hidden message that their singer sucks.

With these guys you never know. Somebody screwed up recording a new album in the past 12 months. Ed could've been lying through his teeth at the Smithsonian about wanting to record new music, but it's Dave's sites and social media that went blank. That to me seems like Dave's protest.

That's just speculation, of course. All I know is that there's a new VH release to be celebrated, shoddy vocals or not. And if they tour I'll be there. You never know when our last opportunity to see these guys live will be.

I see a best seller here!
Sammy did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.
Michael did the impossible. He made Van Halen better. Deal with it.

Q: who was the biggest douche that you have worked with?

A: Eddie Van Halen hands down he threatened all the stage hands that if we wernt all pushed to the side when he got off stage that he would "bash our faces in"

Now the new David-Lee-Roth-Van Halen album, “Tokyo Dome In Concert,” is available for purchase, and it’s super, super, super, super, super, super, crazy bad. - Doug Elfman

I really think the 'stick it to Dave' angle makes no sense . Sorry to those who feel that way .
When RHRN was released , Alex was on video saying "This is an all encompassing record, that shows who we are and what the band sounds like right now" Or something to that effect .
We all know that it was doctored in the studio , and it seems that lots of fans were put off by that idea - although it's a common practice for official live releases .

I really feel that VH now are giving us a true glimpse into 'what we sound like now' , and that it's more of an authentic live appearance . The conspiracy theories are fun at times to ponder , but there's NO cause for alarm here IMO . The guys are simply putting out a live concert document with their current singer . It really is that simple .
"There's too many people on this basketball that's floating around the sun, who are too afraid to allow themselves to FEEL" - Edward Van Halen
"Van Halen was never about the singer..." - A very wise fan.

Same here. I will now buy it, but really struggle with the intent.

I'm thinking the Tokyo live was Dave's input. He wants to memorize his place and have a live show from his new home. I can understand the thought. Execution sucks, but I get it.

I think the brothers bought in when they saw an easy cash grab on the re released Dave era albums.. And a small summer tour = $$$

As previously mentioned, I agree it will go the path of III... will actually sell less..

Man this album is a bad idea, any way you slice it. It's why Dave is hiding out, or not being a team member, he was not on board for this and I have to agree. This shows you what happens to an uncompromising band compromises their collective integrity.
    Even the artwork is blah.

I thought both songs sounded fine for being "untouched." I don't think I would present this to a new fan and say "oh, you've never heard Van Halen? Well then you need to listen to this," but it's fine for what it is. I'll buy it and listen to it regularly...and probably skip DTNA
CNN may think my opinion matters, but you shouldn't.
