Well, that makes sense. She got sick. The dog starved, and Hackman probably just didn’t know what to do for himself and probably had a heart attack or died of starvation himself, who knows. It’s a sad story, but it sure sounds like Gene Hackman should have had around the clock care, not just his wife. He clearly was very ill.

And his kids and grandchildren sound like pieces of shit. Who the fuck doesn’t talk to their sickly, elderly parent for months on end? Shit if I go a day without talking to my mom, it’s rare. Not saying everyone needs to talk to their parent that much, but we do. That’s just the way it is in our family. And if I didn’t hear from her for a day, I’d be over at the house immediately finding out what the hell’s going on.

Hate to say this, but when I was talking to someone the other day, I said my guess was that she died of some kind of natural causes, a stroke perhaps, and when he came upon her tried to get help and ended up falling, and unable to get up, died. It seemed like him being found in a mudroom, presumably near a door with sunglasses on the floor suggested that he was preparing to leave the house, perhaps to get help. I thought it looked like hers was a sudden collapse based upon pills scattered and a heater knocked over. To those who thought maybe she found him dead and committed suicide, I pointed out that no one as close to her dog as she was, would have killed themselves knowing that their dog was crated and would suffer a painful death.

These were people who apparently kept too close to themselves if she died February 10th and he the 18th and they were not found until the 27th? That is horrible. To think of him wandering around the house, not figuring out to let the dog out of that crate when it MUST have been raising a racket, is very sad.

He obviously had no connection to reality. There should have been a caretaker or a visiting nurse or something to safe guard this kind of thing happening

Someone once told me that I would be surprised how many times meals on wheels volunteers showed up to deliver a meal only to find their clients dead or incapacitated. Seems like that alone is a good reason to sign the elderly up for meal delivery.

Very often people with severe dementia simply forget to eat and drink. But I think what might have happened is that he just didn't take his medications. If he wasn't of a capacity to realize his wife was dead and their dog was in dire condition he certainly wasn't thinking about his heart medications. The combination of dehydration and no medications would have been lethal.

For the car guys out there, legendary custom car builder Gene Winfield passed away on March 4 at age 97.

He was like the Eddie Van Halen of custom cars.

As far as I know, he was still working on cars up until a few years ago...

    RIP Gene...

Bob Rivers, disc jockey - was at 98 Rock in Baltimore for a bit. Best known for his song parodies. As long as it seemed he was around, can’t believe he was only 68

Bob only worked at 98 rock in Baltimore a short time but left a loyal fan base. The Orioles started the season losing 21 straight and he vowed to stay on the air until they won a game. Nobody good stays in Baltimore radio or tv for long. Rip
