Just wondering how many of you read it and what you thought of it. I am reading it right now and it definitely gives some insight into why Dave is who he is and what he meant to the band. I'm sure he embellishes certain parts, but it's insightful stuff.

I liked the book. I thought it was a good mix of Dave the entertainer and Dave as a human being. If people want to see Dave in a light different than the line "Look at all the people here Tonight" schtick -- Pick up Crazy from the heat. I found it a good read.
Another great thing about the book -- it is not necessary to read it page 1 throught the end. You can read from any point.
Enjoy

I liked it, I just thought it read to much like he talks, no real point and all over the place, don't get me wrong I love Dave, he is just a very random person, and the books shows it.

I found "Crazy From The Heat" to be a very entertaining read from begining to end. It really opened my eyes and made me "re-think" some of the feelings I had when Dave left the band in 1985. For the majority of the news reports and band interviews during that time period, it made it seem like it was mostly all Dave's fault for leaving the band? After hearing Dave's side of the story and seeing what actually became of the late great Eddie Van Halen, I can see why Dave wanted to leave. I found the stories of Dave's travels around the world quite exciting and thinking to myself, that Dave is much more than just a singer or an entertainer, but a very well versed and well traveled human being. I think it would have been a trip of a lifetime to have been with Dave during his many travels around the world. I hope that someday, Dave will release the chapters he cut from the original writing and finally release the "spoken" word version.
If you have the opertunity to read this book, please do. It is well worth it and will give you a different perspective of Dave and the band Van Halen durring their classic years. If you can't do it in a white t-shirt and a pair of jeans under one lightbulb, you can't do it!

I pretty much think that Dave is a very intelligent man, who has smoked one blunt too many. I really enjoyed the book though. But after reading it, I can't help but wonder certain things about him. As far as the breakup of VH, I kinda get the feeling that it was a mutual thing, just from the way that Dave talks about it. I really believe that Dave has a great love for the brothers, it's just that they are so different in their personalitites and lifestyles that it makes things very complicated, spending a lot of time together, recording, touring, writing songs, etc. I kinda get the feeling that he is a lonely person.
I'm sure that I'll be criticized for even bringing this up, but I also find Dave's relationship with "Big Eddie Anderson" kind of, ummmmm, different? Like the picture of them peeing together? I know, I know. It doesn't matter what Dave's sexual preference's are, but after reading the book, like when he said that after seeing Marylyn Monroe as a child he wanted to be her when he grew up, as well as a few other people. I can't remember the others. I'm not bashing Dave though really. Just trying to understand him I guess. The one thing I do understand about him for sure is that he rocked VH like no other human being on this earth could ever possibly do. I will always maintain that Dave , in his prime was untouchable, the greatest rock frontman ever. Also, buy the book. Peace......."Be yourself, even if you have to fake it"

GMAN5150, I agree about reading books vs. the tele, but if I find a good one I certainly don't mind reading it over and over. I love reading bios and autobios. To each his own I guess.
