If there's a tour, I don't think there's much Dave would want to cover from that era. He wouldn't want to be the walking jukebox that Gary was. Dave has his own identity, and wouldn't like singing Sammy's stuff any more than Sammy liked singing Dave's stuff. They're two different attitudes (and in my humble opinion, two different levels of maturity, with Dave far in the lead). Here, however, are a few I think he could maybe handle (taking into account their differing vocal ranges as well):
Humans Being (he could do it, it would be cool)
Mine All Mine (it's basically in his range, but his voice would compliment it too)
Why Can't This Be Love (playing this would please a lot of Red Rockers, and
they could do it if he avoided the scatting part)
Poundcake (if they took it down a step, but I still can't hear him wanting to sing it)
As for VH3 stuff, I don't think there's a chance in hell they'd bother (nor would there be much call for it). I don't think Vince Neil tried any John Corabi stuff when he rejoined Motley Crue (as far as I know).

Instead o' Humans Bein', they could do, Young and Wild from the early days, a similar riff to HB. And Mine All Mine used to be an instrumental backdrop to Dave's sword or kung fu routines(and he would avoid those IMHO awful lyrics). WCTBL or Poundcake?? I doubt that!! Dave is too stubborn to cover any Sambo tunes I'm guessin', tho on Stern in '96 he did admit there would be some arm-wrestling about the setlist...Page/Plant played "Shake My Tree" in '95...

I'm thinkin' they could do this: Ed mixes in a Van Hagar riff durin' his new solo, Big Al and Mikey jam a Van Hagar tune while Diamond Dave is backstage bangin' multiple hotties...or they all could rev up "Make It Last" like they did in '74...
Some mofos have brought up the point that there is so much Van Rothin' material they've never even played live that they wouldn't even have to bother with any '86-'95 toonage...

It WAS pretty amazing to hear Robert Plant sing Page/Coverdale's SHAKE MY TREE on the '95 tour or hear Page play Plant's CALLING TO YOU. Two great performances.
I agree that Dave wouldn't exactly be first in line to suggest these numbers duing rehearsal, but I do think the band would probably want a song or two (or three) from this era to be played. Otherwise there are SOME fans that would feel alienated. Personally, I don't care at all if they play any Sambo stuff. I've heard enough of it on live videos and in concert to last a lifetime, and IMHO the shit's generally not as good. But, if they wanted to be the band VAN HALEN, it may be artistic denial to ignore the entire era. Maybe one or two tracks."I had a girl beating on my hotel door all night...She was screaming, crying. Finally, I said, 'What the hell'...and I let her out!"- DLR

I doubt Dave would sing any Sammy songs, but I think Summer Nights, Poundcake, The Seventh Seal, and Humans Being are good choices.

You ain't lyin'!! YOU AIN'T LYIN'!!! I almost REPEAT ALMOST dropped my beer when Pagey started whipcrackin' that Shake My Tree riff(isn't that similar to the Nobody's Fault But Mine intro ?) and then again durin' the Calling To You/Break On Through/Dazed And Confused medley!!!!!!

Achievements:
I seriously doubt Dave would sing any Sammy era VH tunes. I am sure if the boys reunite with Roth, this is one of many burning issues.
I personally do not want to hear Dave sing any Sammy era songs. Just me though.

I agree. SHAKE MY TREE is very much like NOBODY'S FAULT BUT MINE (as is PRIDE AND JOY by COVERDALE/PAGE). Amazing album, by the way. And I was glad that the first tour they did together wasn't all nostalgia. They really went through their whole careers and did different stuff. Man, I freaked when they played that song. I love that track. Totally. On the second tour, it was all old Zeppelin stuff and maybe half of their (slightly weak) new album.
If VH did a Dave tour, I don't know if they would tackle any Sammy songs. I kinda doubt it. But if they did a couple, I was just kind of wondering what they could maybe handle.
Eddie has said before he doesn't care which old songs they play as long as they play new material. But maybe...who knows?"I had a girl beating on my hotel door all night...She was screaming, crying. Finally, I said, 'What the hell'...and I let her out!"- DLR

I can't see the Diamond One singing more than one or two Sammy tunes, talk about Clash of the Egos.
He'll should try "Summer Nights" and "Runaround". In his book he said that before the split in '85 he'd started work on some tunes, one of which became SN, am I right? Also, "Runaround" is a cool song, it's in Dave's range and I think the words could suit him.Use my hand, I won't look!
