I can't understand why a lot of people didn't dig this song. IMO its one of Van Halens most underated songs. Dave sings his ass off on this jam
How to make a “Mad Anthony”
2 oz Cabo Wabo® Tequila
1 oz Spicy V8
Juice from a fresh Lime
A generous dollop of Mad Anthony’s Hot Sauce
Combine in a shaker full of ice and shake it up
Pour into shot glass garnished with
a dab of salt
a small slice of lime
a slice of Serrano or Jalapeno chili pepper

I know that Dave's attempts at hitting the high notes bugs some people. But other than that I don't care it's Van Halen! The song kicks ass PERIOD.

This song, IMO, is as good as anything from the first six albums and is better than anything Van Hagar put out. If only VH and Dave had made an entire studio album in '96

I like it. I remember hearing it on the radio for the first time on a drive home from school and being amazed. It's way better than CGTSNM IMO.

No doubt about it Me Wise Magic is a solid tune. It gave me goose bumps when I first heard it on the radio. Can't Get This Stuff No More is pretty damn good too.

I love "Me Wise Magic" I just think it sounds like Dave is really working hard to sing it. I wonder how it would have been if Sammy sang it? Afterall, IMO it's more suitable for his vocal style. (i.e. Naturally Wired)

You can't even cop an attitude without the music (laughs).

It was a good sign of what we could have expected if they had continued working with Dave, IMO.
True, Dave's voice seemed to be reaching hard at some points, but it's got a great groove and killer guitar work by Ed.

I love "Me Wise Magic", but my favourite VH song from '96 is "Humans Being". It's so dark and angry...
“And what we have at our fingertips is arguably one of the greatest high tenor voices ever – that was in Michael Anthony. In our tiny little corner of the universe, that voice is as identifiable as the high voice in Earth, Wind & Fire, as identifiable as the high voice in the Beach Boys. Van Halen is an indelicate house blend of both – that’s intentionally. So I would always look forward to that reunion.” - David Lee Roth

I have to agree with Ian Sane that Me Wise Magic is a great song, but I think Humans Being is better. If VH held on to either Sammy or Dave in '96, their next album would have been great if either of these songs were an indication where they could have gone

I love Me Wise Magic. Its definately better than any Hagar stuff.
I liked FUCK. Hated Balance ("Some say rock is good for the soul, good for the rock, good for the roll"). Then Humans Being came out and it kicked ass. Kinda a throwback to the Fair Warning days (music wise).
Then they release 2 songs with Dave that kicked ass and I was in heaven.
Then they got rid of Dave, got Cherone and released III.
Now there's a tease if I ever heard of one.

If only Van Halen had recorded Humans Being with David Lee Roth instead of Me Wise Magic.
I've said this before, but I think Humans Being was written for Dave by Ed subconciously.
Listening to the verse, it's clearly in Dave's key, plus the song is structured exactly like a Fair Warning Dave-era tune in that the chorus is sung primarily by Ed and Mike so the singer can work the stage.
In interviews around this time, Ed started complimenting Dave's creative contributions to Van Halen, probably while looking back fondly on the great group he was part of.
Soon after, Sammy got the door.

When I think of Me Wise Magic I think of what could have been. That and Humans Being were awesome and darker songs. VH was just getting started with a kinda different sound...then Cherone came.
Pick up the fucking phone Eddie and call someone!!
