Yep. When VH was on MattRock promting VH3, Ed explained that the song is about parents in general. How they know us so well, because they've raised us all our lives, yet we don't really know that much about everything they went through before they had us. What made them who they are, the ups and downs of their lives, etc.

Achievements:
It was sort of a composite of all of the band's Mothers. Gary's Mother is named Josephina.

I dont know man, I always listen to "Josephina." The main riff is simplistic but it sounds really good and the meaning of the song is unique. I especially like that part where they say " can you shine the light". Eddies solo is really cool also. It almost takes a guitar player to appreciate "Van Halen 3". (but you can definitely enjoy the album if you have never even touched a guitar)

Ed6150: In your opinion, 'Josephina' is weak...I, on the other hand, believe it is a tremendous song, with a lot of heart and soul.
Listen to the lyrics, and think of how they might apply in your life. I would be surprised to know that it doesn't touch you.
There are also subtle 'harmonies' underneath the leads. This is the song Ed and Robs wound meter tape through the piano strings and then yanked it through to create a 'sound' that Ed was chasing. How many other people would have come up w/ something as tortured as that to get a sound? LOL!!

I think it's a good song. It's cool live too when Eddie and Gary sit down to play it, it reminds me of the More Than Words video.

Yeah, I agree Yankee. The album version's o.k. I don't really love it or hate it, but I really liked how they performed it live though. Definitely cool, IMO.

You know, I keep hearing that the live version is better than the studio version, but I've never seen it.
I think "Josephina" would have been an interesting instrumental, but as it stands, I really can't enjoy it.
Too foreign to my ears.
