Nothing mind blowin' here. Just a bit of info I came across about the Balance cover art. I seem to recall past post people asking about the story or meaning behind it. This was found at the website of Glen Wexler, the photographer/ illustrator responsible for VH's F.U.C.K and Balance cover art. If your into this kind of stuff, I strongly suggest you check out his site at www.glenwexler.com . He has some awesome images on their.
Balance
Album cover for Van Halen. Drummer, Alex Van Halen wanted to explore the notion of Balance questioning and reflecting the duality and contradictions of human experience. I never suspected that one of my most sophisticated and challenging commissions would come from a group known as a rock n’ roll "party band." The androgynous conjoin twins were created from several images of a four year old boy photographed on a prop seesaw on a studio set. The peaceful looking twin pulls the hair of the other, which is actually my daughter's hand. The screaming twin I directed to "roar like Simba from the Lion King." The crater filled post-apocalyptic landscape was built in miniature. Selected for inclusion in the 1995 Communication Arts Photography Annual.
Jeri Heiden, creative director; Warner Bros.Records, client.

Thanks for the info. I've always wondered about that album cover. Not one of my favorites but I'm glad to know the meaning behind it.

Probably more important (& profound) at the time of recording the album was the title.....
Says a lot about the state of the group at the time.
Q: Recording the album took so long your Australian tour last year was cancelled. What was it like in the studio? There's a history of tension between you and Eddie Van Halen...
DLR: It was like a stand off in a Chuck Norris movie. We each had the laser dot on everybody's forehead waiting for the other guy to blink. Except for Wolfie, he had a Super Soaker ...

Here is the Shaolin monk who taught the fundamentals of feelin' the balance to Eddie back in 1995.
