What are fans opinions of a reunited VH recording a couple of old unreleased VH songs for a new album? I personally think that recording a couple of the scrapped songs could inject some energy into sessions for a new album.
Which songs would you like the band to re-try? I personally who would like them to finally record BIG TROUBLE and release it. A new recording of this with the same sort of energy would be amazing. I would also love them to do SHE'S THE WOMAN (with a new bridge so that they don't replicate the same bridge that appeared in MEAN STREET). I think this would be amazing, with 10 other new songs on the album.

Definately "Big Trouble" and maybe "Babe Don't Leave Me Alone"...
“And what we have at our fingertips is arguably one of the greatest high tenor voices ever – that was in Michael Anthony. In our tiny little corner of the universe, that voice is as identifiable as the high voice in Earth, Wind & Fire, as identifiable as the high voice in the Beach Boys. Van Halen is an indelicate house blend of both – that’s intentionally. So I would always look forward to that reunion.” - David Lee Roth

'Big Trouble' and 'Down In Flames' without a doubt.
Any remake of an unreleased song would be a nice treat for the diehard fans.Remember the Heroes - 9/11/01

You know, I've never listened closely to DOWN IN FLAMES. I have to check it out again. It only exists as a live recording in Japan (and maybe another live recording elsewhere) as far as I know. But I have it somewhere. Too bad it wasn't recorded on the demo tape. Maybe in the VH vault somewhere is a studio recording of it from the VHII sessions."I had a girl beating on my hotel door all night...She was screaming, crying. I think "I Wanna Be Your Lover" would be the best song they could pick out of the unreleased stuff. I still can't believe that didn't make an album. Dave might have trouble with the high end, unfortunately.

"Let's Get Rockin", "Big Trouble" and "Down in Flames"
On one of the 1978 tour boots, Dave tells the audience that Down In Flames will probably be on their next album (VHII)....I wish it made it.

I know. It's not like they didn't have room on the album. It's so damn short!!!"I had a girl beating on my hotel door all night...She was screaming, crying. Finally, I said, 'What the hell'...and I let her out!"- DLR

The LAST thing I want to hear is VH pulling songs from the 70's out of their closet and releasing them. Consider how they handled the first few records:
The best tracks from the original demo were chosen for the first album.
The second-rate material from the demo was chosen for the second album, with maybe one or two new songs recorded.
The THIRD-rate material ended up on WACF, again with a new track or two recorded.
If the songs weren't 'good' enough to make it past the leftovers which dominate VH2 and WACF, they sure as hell aren't good enough now.
Also, it's not 1979; that stuff is WAY too dated to put out now. (of course, if they decided to put out a collection of unreleased material, then it would work fine there, since it's a given that it's 'old' and that it was never released for whatever reasons) If you've got a bootleg of the stuff, you should be happy with that. I don't see any reason for VH to revert back to that stuff now. It's 2002 already, and if VH wishes to catch up to the new millenium, digging back to 1976 ain't the answer.
After waiting for just about 4 years now since the last VH release of any kind, they better have about 10 cd's worth of NEW material for the next one, if there IS a next one.Don't bark at me...I didn't name ya.

No, I just think that a band going back a quarter of a century to dig up material to release as 'new' would be a rip-off. If a band hasn't grown in their writing (musically AND lyrically) in 25 years, why would anyone demand a new release? The few VH fans left have been demanding a new release for a LONG time now; what would be the point of rehashing some old throw-aways?Don't bark at me...I didn't name ya.

Dude, two songs? What's the harm? And don't tell me they always picked the right songs. BIG TROUBLE or GET THE SHOW ON THE ROAD are far better songs than OUTTA LOVE AGAIN or FOOLS (IMHO). I think OLA and FOOLS are good, but not as good as the outtakes. I also prefer SHE'S THE WOMAN. There's a certain energy to those songs. And in my opinion, if the band at least jammed those songs out in the studio to get back into a playing, energetic mood to write and record new material, they might have a good enough version on tape of BIG TROUBLE to actually put it on the album. Again, I don't want it to sound like 1977. I want a new drum sound, new guitar sound (though I hope Eddie lets it roar like he used to)...make it a new production. But those are great songs, and I'd love to hear a couple re-recorded.
Hey, I got a ZEPPELIN out-take from PHYSICAL GRAFFITI called SWAN SONG, and though it doesn't have vocals, it's clearly better than a few of the songs they ended up putting on the album (even though it's still their best album). Outtakes can surprise you sometimes."I had a girl beating on my hotel door all night...She was screaming, crying. Finally, I said, 'What the hell'...and I let her out!"- DLR
