I remember seeing the Nissan commercial and thinking that the song they were playing was really awesome

but the first time I listened to VH "on purpose" was in fall 1998

    I was 16

It was one of those used CD stores that let you listen before you buy and I listened to "Not Enough" first......

    I was about 10 or 11.

I was watching (audible gasps ) MTV, you know, back in the day when they PLAYED VH.

I saw the videos for "Jump" and "Panama" and said to myself, "Self, make your ears happy." So I went to the record store. They didn't have anything other than 5150, and OU812. So I got both.

I go home, and immediately listen to 5150 and LOVE it.

But all along, I'm looking at the pictures from the album sleeve and asking myself, "Self, why does Sammy Hagar look (let alone, sound! ) so different from the 'Jump' and 'Panama' videos?"

(I was 10 or 11. Sue me for being reatarded. )

From then on I've been hooked.

My best friend Jim played 'Big Bad Bill' and 'Happy Trails' to me back in 1987 I think, in his big mansion house that backed on to my parents garden. Used to climb over the fence and go and listen to his CDs. I was 16 at the time I think. Sunny weather, the perfect music for it, all my friends got into VH at the same time and I heard loadsa different songs from their collections around the same time....

...I'm probably the only person in the world who got into Van Halen through those two songs unless someone here knows otherwise...
