Nope. "It's About Time" was super popular at the Links. People were gushing about the lyrics "paint it red on black." You have to remember, it was a very different time. A hope that VH went off track for a few years and would get back to normal. We got caught in the moment.

I don't remember people gushing over it.

I remember our local DJ premiering it and at the end of the song saying "It's about time they go back into the studio and write a better song."

I am sure people were excited about new VH after what at that time fans thought was a dry spell, regardless the quality of the output.

Then you go see them live, and for half the concert you aren't sure what song Ed is playing, the bloom was off the rose.

According to Sam, it took them six months to come up with those three songs.

That makes one shudder to think what they would have come up with if they had taken an entire year.

The thing that most baffles me is that after six years of no new music, they all were OK with releasing those three. It's like everyone in the damn band forgot what a good song sounded like.

Anybody see the video for the new song John 5 did with Dave Mustaine? The concept for it seems exactly what was proposed for the "Me Wise Magic" video, which Dave balked at.

We loved it here. The majority here were happy with the new tracks when they were released.

    Me included.

When a song has just been released, it's not always self evident how it will fit within the band's body of work. I was excited by these 3 songs because this was FINALLY an EVH move i understood. Bringing back Dave for 2 songs in 96? Totally confusing. Gary? More confusion. Gary fired and no singer higher? Confusion still. Years of silence? Confused and worried. Sammy coming back? Makes sense. That was the reasoning back in 2004. Now we know better, hindsight is always 20/20. Gotta remember that back in the early 2000s, many were sure that a CVH released named "Tabula Rasa" was imminent. We even had the name of the first single, "Independent's Day."

I like the three tunes more than most on here it seems. Sure, maybe not top tier VH, but there are definitely some Sam era tunes I like worse, and I'm sure a few on here could name a bunch of the tunes I think are worse than the 2004 tunes.

I still like Learning To See the best of the 3.

Learning to See is the best of the worst, I will agree. Thatís the strongest tune of the three.

It still doesnít sound like Van Halen though.

Itís a shame Samís lyrics were so trash on the other two, especially UFB, because those could have been interesting VH tunes.

UFB is one of the best grooves Edís laid down. Ever.

Hindsight is 20/20. I was pumped for and thoroughly enjoyed all the tracks when I first heard them but they havenít stood the test of time for me. None of them hold up to any of the ďoriginalĒ tracks off of ADKOT. Not even close.
