Diver Down is a great album, although it may be the most in need of remastering of all of the Dave era CD's. I realize that Eddie has a low opinion of this album, but it should have been represented on the Best of CD. Little Guitars is easily one of the best Van Halen songs of all time, as is Secrets. Hang em High, though musically an old song, is a great rock song. And Cathedral is one of Ed's most beautiful solos. Obviously the cover songs, and Ed's displeasure with them, make this album stand out, but if ever there was a band that took cover songs to another level, it was Van Halen. Like every DLR era CD, the only real complaint I have is that it's too short.

The only thing dissapointing to me on this album is Dancing in the Street. The guitar riff is awesome! I read Ed wanted that music for an original VH song, but it ended up on a cover of Dancing in the Street? Cathedral into Secrets is awesome, Hang Em High & Little Guitars are great tunes... All in all the album kicks ass, & the 83 tour was huge.

Diver Down is a fun album to listen to, but you're right, Glenn, when you said that it is in the most need of remastering. I don't think the original recording does the songs justice. This album is definetly too short and it's too bad that they filled it with so many cover songs. The original work on DD like Secrets, Little Guitars, and The Full Bug is fantastic and I would have liked to have heard more songs like that. Where Have All The Good Times Gone and Dancing in the Streets are my least favorites. These songs are just too dull to be played by the group that gave us Unchained and Romeo Delight.

To me, FW is the one that needs the most remastering. I don't see DD bein' remastered.

I bought DD before I bought FW, WACF and VH2, not to mention OU812, FUCK and Balance (3 was given to me BTW). There is a reason for that, WHATGTG is easily one of the best covers ever, when compared to the original. I heard it after a basketball game we had just lost and that first verse really connected with me. Cause I hadn't been scorin' in the past couple of games, like I had been before. And when I heard "Will this depression last for long.", I really felt better....

Secrets is mellow and cool, sort of like somethin' you hear in a coffee house. The only song I don't care for is Pretty Woman and it ain't that bad, but....

Dancin in the Street is cool. Not the intro, the solo.

You know what I don't get? Why all these people who say they like the Hagar ballads, Queen, Bon Jovi, ect.... but they say they don't like Dancin in the Streets. I don't get that but oh well. :0

I love all the original songs on this album -The covers are more so-so - but they are fun.....

I can't belive vh3 up there can stick his nose in the air and just say 'no comment'.. the fact you said 'no comment' is a comment in itself

C'mon man, you gotta dig *something* off this album surely???

DD is my least favorite Dave-era VH album. I don't really hate it, I just love the other one's so much, ya know? I personally can't stand Pretty Woman or Dancing In The Street, but the rest of the songs are pretty cool. Little Guitars is probably my favorite song on the album, and ya gotta love Big Bad Bill.

redfire, gotta' disagree with you on "Dancin' In The Street."

I HATE this song. Dear god, I hate it.

Can't help it. It just rubs me wrong. The solo is cool. But the song just irks me to no end.

In my opinion, "Dancin' In The Street" was to DD what "Apolitical Blues" was to OU812 : A song that shouldn't be on the album.

On the whole, though, DD has really grown on me. I never really used to listen to it, but I had it on a couple of weeks ago and I've been listening to it on and off since.

On DD, every song EXCEPT "DITS" kicks ass.

I neglected it. But I'm back on track. LOL.

On it's own, Diver Down is a pretty good
album. If I compare it to the first album
or Fair Warning, it's at the bottom of
    the totem pole.

It's funny DD was mentioned. I have had the album since it came out and it was the ONLY VH I never upgraded to CD, until just about a month ago. I heard Cathedral/Secrets on VHVault and almost forgot what great songs they were. On top of that, Little Guitars has always been one of my favorites.

I actually found a used DD at a Warehouse, and have been playing it straight fot the last month.

This is one of those VH albums that have a lot of diversity to it; the cover songs, an ocapella (sp) of Happy Trails, and then Jan Van Halen and the clairinet on Big Bad Bill - very cool!
