Here is some additional info by Albert R that goes with these pictures

"The actual golf tournament started at 10 AM, but the golfers were scheduled to arrive starting at 8 AM. When I walked up around 8:15 AM I looked over my right shoulder and noticed that Eddie Van Halen was also walking in about 10 feet away!! "Wow!" I thought, but hesitated to take his picture or ask him to sign something, as I wasn't yet sure what the setup was. I walked up behind them to an area where fans were lined up with photos, programs, index cards, albums, even nicely framed photos. Who knows how early they had arrived. They politely asked Eddie for autographs, but he declined them all. After he entered the clubhouse I went around to the fans to see if they had any luck with taking a photo or getting an autograph. They seemed disappointed. I didn't see any of those fan items again. I left the tournament around 4 PM and I would have guessed that Edward still had probably another 2 hours to go before he was done, so if any of these early morning fans stayed around for autographs after the tournament, they would have been waiting for at least 10 hours. You can see the back of Eddie in the middle right of this picture as we were walking in."

"Rumors have been rampant the past few months that Ed was going through a divorce. After I took this photo I noticed he was still wearing a wedding band, but it was on his "engagement" hand. I wonder if that is normal for him? Today Val and Wolfie were nowhere to be seen."

"Before the next few pictures, Eddie had walked right past me. As he did, I smiled and asked if he could stop for a picture. He said "I'd prefer you take it after the tournament" (nice blow off, Eddie). I understood he was probably busy and said "sure, sure". After all, it was 8:30 and he only had another hour and a half before the start of the tournament. Well, he walks maybe 15 feet away, when suddenly he has all the time in the world to stop, chat, take pictures and even sign some autographs."

"When Eddie was asked about how often he played golf, he said hadn't played since last year's celebrity golf tournament."

"Eddie had a red cut or opening on the corner of his nose. He explained that he was standing next to a woman with one of "those long cigarettes" and when he turned in her direction he was struck right in the nose."

"When Eddie had stopped to take photos and sign autographs, I used that opportunity to take some pictures of him from a distance. Right after I took this picture he walked up to me and asked "Why'd you even bother asking?" I replied, "you had already stopped to take pictures" and he said "yeah, for friends". Right Eddie, I am sure your close friends were asking you for autographs. I had bothered asking him for a picture earlier to be respectful of his time, but when I saw he chose to stop, I saw no problem taking a few photos, since I was not the one holding him up!"

" It was now around 2 in the afternoon. This was how Eddie looked when he arrived to the celebrity tee off area. He was looking for something, and had his back to the polite fans who were asking for pictures and autographs.

"Eddie found what he was looking for and proceeds to light up a cigarette! The LAPD "security" around him had told the fans that Eddie would not be signing anything or posing for pictures until after the tournament."

"After ignoring his fans, and finding a cigarette, Eddie proceeds to the celebrity tent area."

"In the celebrity tent area, Eddie suddenly has all the time in the world again to pose for photos..."

During the announcer's introduction of Edward, he said something about how he redefined the boundaries of rock n' roll (very loose paraphrase) to which Eddie replies in this sound clip by saying "yeah, but I don't play golf."

"After teeing off, Eddie headed back to his cart. One of the fans asked him if he could smile for a photo. He replied "I don't even think I could do that. Does anyone have a toothpick?"."

"Eddie was the only celebrity I saw that refused autograph requests before the tournament, and in the celebrity tee off area. All other celebrities seemed to appreciate their fans and made an effort to at least greet some fans, take some photos and sign some autographs."

"It was sad seeing the fans getting turned down by Eddie for an autograph, especially when the fan was 10 year-old boy or a woman in a wheelchair. Somebody asked politely for just one autograph, and somebody else repeated the request, to which he replied "see what you guys are asking for!". Note that there was a much louder fan reaction for Meat Loaf when he teed off, and there more fans asking for his autograph than Edward's. Meat Loaf graciously made the time to sign every autograph and pose for every picture request. I also saw him do the same thing before the tournament, even though it was 10 minutes after 10 AM, and he was running really late!"

Yeah, I am seeing that different people had different experiences, and since this was my first type event like this, I had a long way towards learning how to "play the game."

My perspective was more of that of the casual fan, not a person stalking Eddie from hole to hole.

I saw Eddie early in the morning at the area where the common fans were lined up autographs and photos (which he declined).

I saw Eddie later that morning as he entered the VIP area.

I didn't see Eddie again until the middle of the afternoon when he made it to the 1st tee, where the announcer introduces each golfer to the fans, and the area is set up for some fan interaction and photos.

In these general areas, I seemed to be around the more "common fans", the ones that wanted to see the various celebrities come through, not just following one celebrity around all day.

It was an interesting day, but I will admit to meeting some much nicer celebrities yesterday.
