i was a fan of van halen mach. 3, just didnt really like the album... but i felt they would eventually turn things around... then when he left and the heavy rumors that dave was back started floating around, i got happy... really happy... but shit, i mean, i'm tired of this... they would have released another album with him, and probably be in the middle of a tour right now... i don't really know my point to this, but in my humble opinion all the gary bashers out there can at least look back and say at they were making music, instead of sitting on their ass...COME ON VAN HALEN
    GIVE US NEW MUSIC ALREADY

Look dude...I'm not attacking you here or anything. But if I'm reading you correctly, you are basically telling us all that you would take what would most probably be an inferior product just because it's going to come out earlier than the real deal. I know the waits been a long time, but you'd rather have Cherone than silence? I don't know dude, I think I'll take the silence, and just listen to the classics...

It's not quite that bad dude.

If Eddie and Gary were on the same page about the direction they wanted to go in, I would have been more than happy to hear the next album and check out the next tour (if they came anywhere near my city). But if those two realized it wasn't working, I give them credit for not trying to sell an album they weren't comfortable with. It does sound like they got a fair ways into the recording process, and it would be interesting to hear what they were producing.

There should be an official questionnaire for Van Halen fans; first question, "Are you good at waiting?"

LOL....and the next question would be "How well do you handle change?"

well, in response to pojo, basically, i'd rather have an inferior product over nothing... and right now, i'm starting to doubt if anything is gonna happen with roth... that is probably the wait getting to me... but still, i can't help that i feel like that... so, i'd rather have an album with cherone (which i wouldnt call inferior if they put out van halen music and not experimental stuff) over nothing... at least we'd know where they stood... i could probably go on further but i have a paper to write on: should the quest for equality in american society be premised upon sexual equality or gender neutrality?.... it's a doozy.

Of course, Ed mentioned in the 10/98 issue of Guitar World that he was gonna be playing some cello on the new album, and man, was I looking forward to THAT. LOL!!!! Don't worry Deputy, I'm sure something's going on. Besides, that cello may still turn up on the new album!!!!

I would have to agree with the deputy on some of his points. Nobody here has even heard the so called "inferior tracks". Until you hear them make an opinion, other than that stop blowing smoke out of your ass. I would rather have at least attended another vh concert this summer. This silence shit is getting old. I feel warner sisters just didnt want to the album regardless how good it could have been. Oh Yeah.....FUCK WARNER SISTERS! 3

I think a follow up to VH3 would have been a back to basics approach for Van Halen. I liked VH3 and Gary but the album was bad timing on VH's part. A so-called experimental album with a new lead singer was a bad idea. You only get one chance to make a first impression and VH3 didn't hit hard enough. I've heard so many people say that the album is a deeper listen and that it eventually grew on them after a few listens. I think that's the basic problem with VH3, Van Halen needed something special to capture the imagination of Van Halen fans and VH3 didn't deliver. VH3 would have been a great second record with Gary. Save the experimentation after you've re-established yourself with a 3rd frontman. All that being said I'm sure the new stuff the band was working on with Gary would have been alot better. The band though couldn't afford to take a chance on the album doing as poorly as VH3 did.

Some people are still stuck in the "why haven't they released anything yet" mentality.
    Answer is simple.

Eddie had his hip replaced in December, ( 9 months ago)
    A) it takes at least 8-12 weeks to correctly rehab that.

Eddie had his "cancer" thing going on.
    B) it was a 12 week program.

You had the remastering going on.
    C) probably while Ed was getting himself healthy.

Add it all up and you get about 6 months of not 100% Eddie Van Halen.

minus 10 months since Gary left.

Then you have 4 months to complete an album? While trying to mend the wounds with Dave?
February or March is a most realistic time table for the new album.
That will have given them at least 8-9 months of studio and relatiionship healing time.

I am as frustrated as all of you but just be patient, at least they have given us alot of great music to go back and listen to in the meantime.

Another album like VD III would definitely NOT be better than waiting. Would that have been the end result of "Final Nail In the Coffin" or "Left For Dead" or "Van Danniels II: the sequel" (insert favorite title here)??

Some say the "band" was working on stuff that resembled Van Halen music. If this were the case, it might have produced an album along the lines of 5150 or F.U.C.K. which wouldn't have been bad, but still wouldn't have topped an album by the true Van HALEN.

Others, Gary Cherone included, were on record as saying the album was going to have a "more experimental" sound. Meaning what? "Once, part II, III, and IV"? An entire album of "How Many Say I?" Nine Inch Van Danniels? Limp HipZit? If this was the case, then it's good that WB (or whomever) pulled the plug and got it over with.

Van HALEN is: Dave, Eddie, Mikey, Alex. Any questions?

I agree with Deputy. I got used to Gary as the singer of VH. This summer we could have been talking about the Tour with Gary and VH. And we would have had a new VH album! I have no clue why VH hasn't anounced that DLR/VH reunion. Maybe Sammy was correct and Dave is out. If that's true it probably will be a long time before we get a new Van Halen album.

Steve Vai said something interesting in an interview about VH's status with Gary. He said he honestly couldn't see WB dropping VH because they've made them so much money and that gave me hope 'cause that's a guy that's IN the music business. So who knows what they could've done with Gary. Danniels was a weasel but that was Eddie musically calling the shots on III. He's a such a diverse and brilliant artist I don't think he knew what to do with him calling the shots. Roth and Hagar both ran much tighter ships, and once they were both going, Eddie went nuts with his new "freedom" That's my interpretation of III. I think Eddie's a good songwriter,(Jump, Right Now, etc.) maybe he would've gone back to the basics with the next album, we'll never know. Roth's back at least!!!!!
