Been listening to alot of live stuff of VH lately, and Ive noticed that Ed doesnt sound the same AT ALL live on the 3 tour compared to other tours. The sound is like more harsh or distorted, not as crisp sounding. Anyone else notice that? Whats the deal?
WHOAOH! Hey you! Who said that? Baby how you been?

Hell yeah it was! The way it fucking should be, IMO. Eddie hadn't played with that kind of fire since the Dave-era, and I loved it. He finally sounded like he got some balls back in his playing. Raw and kick-ass all the way. Ed's tone and playing were definitely the best parts of that tour to me.

"When I first heard "Runnin' With The Devil" on the radio, I was stunned and found myself dizzy, walking through my high school hallways thinking, "What was THAT?!"
Eddie Van Halen was so innovative and kicked so much ass, and David Lee Roth was for a time indisputably the Greatest Man in America.
If aliens came down and challenged us to a Battle of the Bands to decide the fate of Planet Earth, I would feel very confident putting early Van Halen forward as our champion." -Tom Morello
"There is no heir to the throne of Eddie Van Halen. Nobody sits on that throne. Nobody takes that throne. Here's why it's different with Eddie: when a great guitar player passes, you just move on to another, right? But in this case, Eddie wasn't just a 'guitar player'. We're talking about a guy who changed culture and how we play guitar. He was like an alien coming in and fucking everything up so much that even the legends beforehand are like, 'Okay .. what is happening here? What sorcery is this?'" -Nuno Bettencourt

I had mixed feelings about his sound on that tour. Some songs sounded really good while others were just okay. I never had a problem with this sound on any other tour. I remember Ed saying in an article that he wasn't too sure himself about his sound. He said his roadies loved it and told him it was the best he's had it in awhile.

:insertpukesmiliehere: That has got to be about the worst tone I've ever heard in my life. That was just terrible, absolute shit. It sounded like he was playing an out of tune chainsaw. It was so bad, I have yet to make it through a whole VH3 show. I think he had to work at making that tone that bad.

Who' Barry?
Lol on myself."I could call it anything, but the only word I can think of is Brown. It's just a warm sound. Warm, big, majestic" - Eddie Van Halen on his Tone
"Van Halen is definitely a ladies band, and I´ve got the Polaroids to prove it". - David Lee Roth
WOLFGANG did the IMPOSSIBLE, he brought back VAN HALEN, DEAL WITH IT.

All I can say is that the tone on the tour was a HELL of a lot better than that serious disappointment on the album.

I didnt think it sounded too bad on the Cherone tour.
His playing of Mean Street sounded pretty awesome, just the voice of Cheroney I could do without. (personal opinion of course)
I also thought the change had to do with going back to wires, vs. wireless.

Ed's guitar sound on the 3 tour was nasty. It sounded like his wah pedal was stuck 'on' all the time. Shrill, grating, and abrasive to the ears. Too much gain, way too much upper midrange, and it all just smeared together like a chimp's finger paintings.
Don't bark at me...I didn't name ya.
