What's the whole story behind this Ray Daniel's thing I keep hearing about him screwing Van Halen over something (?) I'm really pretty confused about what you guys are talking about.

He was the salt in the whole Sammy and Eddie wound back in 1996.
Sammy never liked or trusted him, Eddie, Alex and Mike were blind at the time.

Its also been suggested that Ray did some shady royalty deals that gave him income from *all* Van Halen releases. There are some schools of thought that believe this is one of reasons behind the reunion fuck up.

Some have also suggested that Ed and Al are "waiting it out" apparently for some magical date where Ray no longer has any contractual control, and can longer take anymore royalties or monies from them.

Others say that Dave would not have part of any
contract that involved Ray's greedy hands, especially since Dave was not in the band when Ray was the manager.

It is known that Van Halen are currently involved in a lawsuit(s). Whether or not any of the above reasons are behind the lawsuits, nobody public seems to know.

i still think that if they were involved in a lawsuit, something would have leaked by now.

there could be something going on, but i'm extremely surprised they've been this quiet.

i just do not think ed is ready to get it back together yet

I guess the whole thing with the lawyers might make some sense... I remember Ed saying the thing with Roth got screwed up because of the lawyers. Of course what we don't know is wether it was Dave wanting an undue amount of money for the reunion or if it was Dave's unwillingness to pay anything to Daniels...Although, I also remember in Sammy's book where he said he wouldn't pay Danniels what he wanted..Everyone else in the band did but Sammy's cut was to him was far less.
In the end, I really can't imagine that Ed would supress his music because of a cut to Danniels.
Life is too short and Eddie is too artistic in nature to supress himself because of money.

I really, really think this whole thing boils down to Eddie coming to grip with the fact that he's going to have to apologize to Sammy in order to get that reunion.And right now, he's pnot willing to swallow that pill...He's battled cancer, losing his recording contract and losing his wife...He's probably really trying to focus on his kid and making sure everything is OK there first and foremost. Secondly, he's trying to just get his health back which will be tough when he;s still smoking and drinking. Third, he's probably trying to surround himself with other musicians and friends that he trusts in order to help ease the pain of the divorce and all...

Bottom line is Dave is done...It's over as far as I'm concerned...If we ever see a Roth reunion, it's going to be when these guys are 60 years old or something. If Ed and AL live that long.

In the interest of fairness, despite being somewhat of a Sammy fan, I think Sammy is out for himself, period. If you happen to be going in the same direction that he is, then it would be a good idea to listen to him. He does pretty well for himself. If you are not on the same page...

I don't think he'll screw you, but he ain't real interested in how it turns out for you.

As far as this situation goes, I agree that Sam was right about Daniels, but he wasn't bitching because Ray was "bad" for Van Halen, but because Ray was bad for Sam as part of Van Halen. Semantics, maybe, and just my opinion.

JAY, I think that Sam would come back without an apology. Based on some recent interviews, I think he's ready to go. Will it happen? Who knows man.

As for a reunion w/ Roth, I agree with you. When the horse is dead, it's time to dismount, and IMO, I think Dave & the boys just do not get along. They have tried, but it just seems to fade EVERY time.

although I don't think that Sam is out for "himlself" only on this one lol. This fucking Daniels guy is pure fucking walking evil and I don't see how he can be viewed as just a bad decision for Sam.

Just re-read this tuff again. A couple of observations on my part, and purely my opinion -

1.) Ed and Al should have listened to Sam. I think Al was swayed a little too hard with Ray being his brother-in-law. Well, EX- brother in law, now.

2.) It's a good thing they didn't agree to Tim Collins, though. if you've seen the Aerosmith Behind The Music, Collins turned out to be a real snake himself. I read Aerosimth's "Walk This Way a couple of times, and I think Tim did a great job getting them sober and reunited, but after that, he just truned into another greedy, power-driven devil in disguise.

3.) While I think Sam is shooting pretty straight on all this stuff, I refuse to paint him as some sort of angel, because all the treatment he dished out to his ex-wife Betsy makes him look like a total hypocrite in hs arguments about the brothers. It's one thing if you are trying to "do the right thing" in looking out for yourself, as Sam claimed to be doing. And I think he was for the most part. But I also think Sam needs to take a long hard look in the mirror before accusing other people of greed.

4.)No band should ever have a manager that is related to one of them as family by marriage. Especially with a marital track record like Alex's. Alex's marital troubles are nobody's business to judge, but you would think he would have realized after previous failed marriages that a relative of a wife would not be a wise choice due to longevity issues, or at least the other band members would have.

5.) Ray Danniels is lucky that he hasn't been sued into the ground by Rush (if he hasn't been, that is). What a nutsack. [img]graemlins/irked.gif[/img]
