Tommy Shaw already has two pathetic jokes passing for bands.

Why the fuck would he want to be the final nail in Eddie's coffin?

I seriously doubt there is anything more to Van Halen and Tommy Shaw other than what you see in the pics. Tommy is certainly not the STAR power Van Halen needs. Plus, the pics are taken with Tommy's band Styx. Are we getting so desperate that we're now believing that anyone seen with EVH is the new singer? Please let's get off of this Tommy Shaw stuff.

I thought it was a radio show's Christmas party, and Styx was there because they played the show that was earlier. Eddie probably just hanging out with some industry folks. Good to see him out and about, I doubt he'd go to a media type party if he was really sick, it would be all over the place.

It was fun to play what if with Tommy Shaw et al. in some other threads about a 4th singer, but Tommy Shaw ain't going to happen for a number of reasons, primarily because he doesn't do mic/no guitar.

I seriously doubt they'll be in the same band anytime soon, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were writing songs together.

Edward and Tommy Shaw(whom I think can sing his ass off)could do an album together and have it not be Van Halen.
It's obvious that Ed is in no hurry for a new VH record, but an artist such as himself feels the urge to do SOMETHING on a daily basis, creatively speaking. So a collaberative record would not surprise me at all.

OK, I got to thinking about this a little bit after reading the thread yesterday. First off, I agree that it's highly doubtful there's any hidden meaning with these guys being in the same room together. Plus, to expand on what I think Trennasol was starting to say - we can't start jumping to rumors every time Ed is seen with another human being. Before you know it, his garbage collector is going to be rumored to be hanging out at 5150 testing out some tracks with the boys.

Now -

That said, I thought about Tommy Shaw as a fit for VH, just for fun. 20 years ago, maybe even ten, I could never see Tommy so much as changing strings on Ed's guitar - not a knock on him as a musician, just a comment on how close I think he'd ever get to VH.
I'm not ashamed to say I liked STYX in the 70's. Needless to say, once that Mr. Roboto shit came up, they did the right thing and split.
Tommy is an excellent songwriter, a more than able guitarist, and has a good voice. He has the kind of range Ed has always hoped for in a singer. He's also a team player. All these things could make him a good choice for collaboration.
As a permanent singer in VH? No, not really. But I found this to be more interesting to think about than a bunch of washed-up head-banger losers that have been discussed in the past.

Ford:

Rip Tommy Shaw ????????

uncalled for!!!!!!!!

that guy is so talented !!!!! you wouldn't know what talent was if it threw-up in your face!!!!!!

I love Sammy and Dave but those two guys could never hold a candle next to Tommy Shaw!!!!!! the guys voice is amazing! I dont know anyone who sounds better live!

Plus the guy plays excellent guitar.... (not EVH though) but a great guitar player in his own right!

and song writing blows sammys anyway you look at it but will say dave def tops him. but the guy can write tunes!!!!!

everytime I stop by this board I wish I didn't , too many 'one dimensional' people in here. (not all of you)

all I have too say is 'Damn Yankees' rocked!

EVH seems to think hes cool!!!!!!!!!!

No disrespect, but I don't give a frogs fatass about Tommy Shaw. Styx was Air Supply with distortion, and Damn Yankees sounded like a million other radio friendly pop-metal shit bands. Might as well enlist the help of Desmond Child again.
Everybody wants some...
