Neither of those films looked appealing to me. Maybe I should at least give them a try.
It’s a modern fairy tale, but it’s also funny, and it satirizes the genre in ways you understand as an adult. But keep in mind it was released in 1987.

Don’t expect too much other than it’s a fairy tale, adapted from a beloved book. If I tell you all the fandom behind it it would raise expectations way up.

Willow is on my rewatch list before the sequel series premieres on Disney+.

I don’t remember much about it, but I learned it was an important movie for Industrial Light and Magic in that the “morphing” (or “morfing”) tech we all remember from the late 80s/early 90s was developed for that film.

Shawshank came out when I was in high school and just wasn’t the type of film I thought I’d be interested in as a teenager.

Normally I have to do this kind of stuff in 10-20 minute bursts, but I was able to get these two done over the weekend. I enjoyed Shawshank more, but I can appreciate the Spielberg film for what it was when it came out. And it was still enjoyable.
I cannot over-emphasize the impact of seeing Close Encounters in a big movie theater when it was first released. I saw it opening weekend at the now long-gone Cinedome in Orange which in the late 70's was a state of the art movie theater with stadium seating and an incredible sound system. It was mind-blowing and ranks as one of the top movie-going experiences in my life.

hopefully you at least had the room darkened while watching "Close Encounters Of The Third Kind" - not one of those middle-of-the-afternoon movies.

I've never seen "The Princess (I almost typed "Prison" lol - now that would be a movie!) Bride" or "Willow" either

I watched the first half again last night. This is a cool movie... and other than the first one, the Predator franchise has never intrigued me. Predator has always been a pussy to me with it's cloaking ability. BUT... this movie made it at least seem it was a part the species biology.

Anyway... I'm enjoying this unexpected flick.

I have young kids. Everything is in short bursts. It it was still cool, if a tad slow.

I’d also listened to an interview with Ben Dreyfuss about how his perspective on his dad’s character choosing to leave has changed now as an adult. And I’ve got to admit I feel the same way. Not a decision I could make.

put 'em to bed and watch it in one shot! As for Roy, he was possessed by something he needed an answer to and he wasn't even sure what the question was - and his family drove away. Sure he might've gone back home and reconciled but i'm sure the thought of them leaving was still hot in his head and Lacombe and the "space force" made him an offer he couldn't refuse. The aliens chose him, not one of the ones that had trained for the "mission"

Tried watching The Hunt For Red October.

Connery playing a Soviet captain with his Scottish accent? He didn't even try nor did they make him.

By the numbers treasure hunt flick that is good fun if you suspend disbelief for the last half hour.

I thought they deliberately did that. The actors spoke in English after McTiernan did that trick with the camera where he closed in on someone speaking in Russian and then pulled the camera away after the actor switched to English mid-monologue.

Star Wars VII, VIII & IX

Watched all three in order over the weekend.

I don't follow this shit so it was just a good long Sci Fi mini series that I actually enjoyed... didn't know that was possible after all the rage I've read over the years.

Most improved character - Finn... he was a different, better guy by the end.

Worst character - Vice-Admiral Holdo... I don't care about her good intentions or her yippee ki-yay Kamikaze move ... she doomed the entire remaining resistance by not puling that maneuver the minute all the escape shuttles were clear.

I feel no need to see any of it ever again. But at least I know the whole story now.

Didn't like it. I thought this would be some sort of return to form for Paul Thomas Anderson. Nope. He fooled me again.
