Took Mrs. Van Bundy to see Mufasa yesterday afternoon.
It was a fun way to kill a couple hours.
Seth Rogen as Pumbaa makes all the sense in the world.

The Stepford Wives 2004
Directed by Frank Oz with an exceptional cast*... but the movie is a total piece of shit. What the hell were they thinking?
I guess they were going for a spoof of the original Stepford Wives from 1975 and they failed miserably. Just the terrible opening alone with Kidman as a fired top notch television executive was hard enough to get through.
*Nicole Kidman, Matthew Broderick, Bette Midler, Christopher Walken, Glenn Close, Faith Hill... Jon Lovitz?
I think Kidman is a great actress, but damn! she has made some real duds in between the good shit.

The First Omen (2024):
I'll start out by saying that coming into this I had only seen the original 1976 film. Which was a long time ago, so it isn't fair for me to try and compare.
Watching the film, I'll say that there are many positives. There are times when you will get a movie that is technically supposed to be a prequel to a film that was made decades prior. I'm not the biggest fan of prequels because often times they tried to answer questions that either nobody was asking, or they come up with answers that are inferior to what we could have created in our own mind.
It has been many years since I had seen the original, but I don't think this film ruins the mystique of the original film. The movie looks appropriate for the time period, the acting does a lot to make this feel like a film that could fit in the 1970's.
That's one of the films biggest strong points. It is fits right in with films like The Omen, The The Shining, Changeling and many other films of the time in the that it is a slow burn and it isn't reliant on dumbed down dialogue made to appeal to a modern audience.
The set up is pretty basic in that you have an American woman that moves to Rome to service the church. Time goes by and she slowly uncovers evil doings in an attempt to bring about the Anti-Christ.
It's a mystery-horror movie. However, most of the reveals are not overly surprising, but it's the dread and the imagery that really makes the movie work. Also, keep in mind that our main character is not written to fit the more recent modern female tropes. Our protagonist is actually allowed to be vulnerable, which in turn makes her more relatable.
The movie goes for it. There are a few scenes that go further than I would have expected. There are more sexually explicit scenes here than you would have seen in this kind of film in the 70's. Just be aware of it.
There are a few jump scares, but most of the film is reliant on the dread and tension. The only notable issue is that takes this film sometime to get going. Which is fine sometimes because I usually prefer the slow build up, but I think you could have chopped off 15-20 minutes of this film (mainly from the first half) and you would a good slow burn of a movie.
I don't understand why so many films have to be 2-2.5 hours. It just isn't needed here. Which brings down my score of the film, but I'll still give it a solid 70% for the acting and awesome imagery.Michael Caine on Jaws: The Revenge:

Speaking of horror movies, Cameron confirmed that his intention with The Terminator was to create a horror movie:
Michael Caine on Jaws: The Revenge:
"I have never seen it, but by all accounts it is terrible. However, I have seen the house that it built and it is terrific."
Samuel Johnson 1775 : “Patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel”

I would easily rank Horror Express as one of the scariest movies of all time. Same with Night Of The Living Dead. The Exorcist is still considered the best but it never scared me. I was utterly fascinated by the whole thing when I first saw it but it never terrified me like it did so many others.
