Last Movie You Saw

True Lies - It's been years, maybe over 15 years since I last watched this one. IMO, this is the last really good/close to great movie both Cameron and Schwarzenegger did. Curtis, Paxton and even Tom Arnold are excellent. Perfect balance of action and humor. Also, casting Spencer Tracy as the head of the "Omega Sector" division is all but in name Nick Fury (with eyepatch no less) the head of SHIELD. Yeah, there's a misogynistic streak running through it and making the Arab terrorists almost like the comically bumbling Nazis in say, the Indiana Jones flicks is a bit much. But it's still great entertainment.

The Beekeeper

Went into this thinking it was going to be completely stupid.

Proved me 100% wrong. Had no idea Ayers directed it and, the legend, Jeremy Irons was in it as well.

Statham was great. Stoic. Harkened back to his role in The Transporter.

The story, while predictable, was solid.

And the fight scenes were some of the best I’ve ever seen. Like literally some of the best hand to hand combat scenes I’ve ever witnessed in a movie. The final one, which for anybody who has seen the movie will know, was just fucking brilliant, IMO.

I thought it was good until the gas station scene, then it veered into stupidville and never got out.

"Gangs Of New York". I can't believe people used to live like this, then again, maybe I can because it seems there are some that still do. "Evolved", "Civilised" - humans? No. Was there not an Irish lass available to play the Irish lass? Of course, you have an American of German and Italian ancestry playing the main Irish lad so there's that. Used to be able to do that - now it's "cultural appropriation" or whatever. It was a good movie, but a tough movie. Can't we all just get along?

Great film. Maybe 25 minutes too long and could have been a bit tighter, but who am I to argue with The Master.

Honestly, I really only watch this movie for DDL and Brendan Gleason. I end up skipping parts just to get to their scenes.

Interesting, unique little film. Not great, but not bad. Held my interest for 90 minutes or so. That's a lot to ask these days.

Jack Quaid is the lead, who seems to be everywhere these days.

Silly kids' movie, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Another two-fer last night....

Wolfen: Decent if a bit slow moving horror mystery about a pack of intelligent wolves defending their shrinking territory in late 70's burnt out South Bronx. A few good creepy scares and a couple gory murders bookend the movie but the ending with the wolf pack confronting the detectives in the murdered real estate developer's penthouse is anti-climatic.

Lifeforce: I watch this one every few years. A bit goofy but thoroughly entertaining 80's sci-fi about a space shuttle bringing back a trio of "space vampires" from a giant relic spaceship hidden in Halley's Comet The female vampire spends most of the movie walking around nude with her perfect boobies on full display. The entire cast overacts to almost comical levels. The space vampires suck human "life force" not blood from their victims who go on to become zombie like vampires themselves. Notable for one of Patrick Stewart's earliest small role as a psychiatric hospital manager who has an unintentionally funny scene while being interrogated while under the influence of the vampy chick.

Saw the last Deadpool movie, the one with wolverine. it was on YouTube which surprised me. I'm sure it will be taken down. It was ok. it was kind of cool to see a bunch of old characters from various movies show up. I get why people like the movie version of Deadpool, it's funny at times but I think the whole breaking the 3rd wall stuff is a little out of hand at this point. It's just too much for me.

I'd give it 3.5 stars. I liked the concept but like I said I've grown tired of the 3rd wall stuff the multiverse concept was awesome when it was used sporadically, I think it's a little much at this point.
