who's in favor of a cancer donation on behalf of ed/the band

i really like your idea glen. it would make a lot more sense to raise money for cancer reaearch and such instead of giving it to the la times.

who here would be interested in doing such a thing? we could somehow raise money/donate to the american cancer society in either ed's name, the band's name, etc.

i think it's not only a great idea, but a beautiful one as well. it's very gracious.

I am all for this one too guys. I have a form just about ready to go that we can use for this idea too with a little modifying. I also agree that we should all come to an agreement on putting a label on it. What we need now is coordination, I will handle taking names and information as well as donation amounts.

We also still need a treasurer who can setup a paypal account or something similar. Maybe we can ask Brett if he will setup a seperate forum for just those involved in the backend. We can then coordinate our efforts without flooding the board with red tape.

Lets figure out who all wants to be involved in that process and take it from there, if you have a service you would like to donate for this please let us know.

Why not make a donation in your own name. Contributing to such a great organization is a fantastic idea but why bother putting it in the name of a couple guys who can't even keep their legends of fans informed. Eddie VanHalen can't even be bothered it seems with the very people who made him all the money he used to buy those stinking cigarettes to begin with.

Make the donation because it is very worthwhile but keep that guys name off of the donation until he returns a little of the respect that all of us have shown him for years.

ed is a cancer survivor/victim. just because he has his own faults and addictions doesn't mean we can't put the donation in his name or in the bands name. everyone makes mistakes and has their own demons to deal with. i really don't think we need to badger the man's name anymore, it doesn't accomplish anything.

i liked mike's idea of originally doing something to commemorate the band's 25th anniversary. february 2003 right? what was the date? i don't recall what it was. maybe we can do this to correlate to the anniversary.

know what'd be really cool and off the wall??? this is a dream but ah well, ya never know what might happen...

the cancer society often has "cancer walks" to help raise moeny. they often have live entertainment as well.

what'd be totally awesome is if we did something ala what the vhml and shml used to do...plan some kind of get-together for anyone who would like to come out.

it'd make sense to have it in los angeles. we could plan it well in advance to where whoever wanted to could fly in or drive in. we could have our own walkathon and also ask for sponsors from peole's workplaces, businesses, etc. who knows, maybe we could even get the atomic punks to play the gig to cap off the night. people usually sleep over at these events and stay there all day, and i mean all day [img]smile.gif[/img] we could then send whatever we raise in honor of ed like el jalepeno said.

hey, it's do-able. and it'd be a great way for a lot of us to get together and meet each other as well.

I'd like to research it a little bit though first to make sure that the donation goes to an organization that makes the most out of donated funds. Some of these places, and I'm not sure if american cancer society is one of them, only put 10 to 30 cents on the dollar into research etc. The rest goes in their collective pockets. A good ratio would be 60 cents or more to the dollar actually putting your money towards things that are worthwhile.

The American Cancer Society is a trustworthy organization man. I know several people who are a part of it and several people who have died from the disease, including family.
Why not put the donation in VH FORUMS name from all of its board members? Just a suggestion. [img]smile.gif[/img]

Through the American Cancer Society, you don't need to have a treasurer and all that jazz, each person goes to the website and donates directly, minimizing expenses and the possibility of lost funds. Additionally, there is no red tape. Very simply, we agree on a name such as "Edward Van Halen Fund", and submit the money on the American Cancer Society website. We need Ed's office address so the cards will get to him. So once we publish the agreed on name, and agreed on only for consistency sake, and we get his office address, anyone can donate any amount at their will. Simple [img]graemlins/thumb.gif[/img]
For tracking purposes, we can set up a poll of differing amounts, and then do a tally at the end of the year. If you want to contribute, do so, and then come do the poll. We can have it at $1, $5, $10, $20, Over $20 or something there about. It remains anonymous, no paranoia about where the money is going, no pressure from anyone, and it still goes to a good cause. What do y'all think? Plus if we do it individually, it is much easier for tax purposes... [img]graemlins/bounce.gif[/img]
As for the name VHForums.com, I think if we could include it in our signature rather than donating in the name of VHForums since this is a way to get a message to Ed and help out the effort. i'm talking to wolfman now and he just had a good idea.

it'd be good if we had teams from all the different websites. one here, vhml, vhrocks, etc. i wanna do something big here, coordinate something large..like our own fundraiser walkathon type of deal. if we get enough people involved, we could do something big and for a worthy cause.
