From extremely reliable sources (my father works at Warner Brothers), here is the scoop:

Believe it or not, Dave and the guys are STILL working on the new album. Warner Execs who heard it thought they had a great album 6 months ago, and then they recorded some more songs, and then 3 months ago it was SWEET, and they went ahead and recorded some more tunes...Can you say PERFECTIONIST? Something about Dave is inspiring, old Edward, and he is REALLY trying to make this album the BEST it can be. One way of doing this is by recording MANY tracks (they now have as many as 50 - yes, that's right - 50 tracks laid down.)

Sure, things have gotten in the way, like Eddie's health, as well as the boys REAL big disagreements, having to several times use a "moderator" to help them work through the hard times (Ed is still ticked Dave refuses to have ANYTHING TO DO WITH Sam or Gary tunes)...Also, there are legal matters which still need to be cleared up, HOPEFULLY settled OUT OF COURT.

The good news is the album is suppoed to have some killer stuff on it- and with that many tracks, it has a variety of different types of music- and there ARE, by the way, guaranteed hits on it, unlike VH III. Some surprises include a) Mikey doing lead vocals on a track; b) One track with Female background vocals (she sounds black); c) several instrumentals d) A song with a Tuba solo (Edward thinks this is funny)...But don't worry, About 80% of the songs "rock hard", and sound like they could have come off of FAIR WARNING.

THREE producers have been used, splitting time on each of the different songs, and they are: Teddy, Donn Landee, and Bob Rock in New York.

Another point of contention with the boys is picking which songs survive the final cut, as they are looking at 12-13 tracks for the final disc, slated for release in the first quarter of 2000, with MASSIVE tour to follow, of which Dave is going NUTS planning down in Palm Springs as we speak..They considered going on the MTV awards, but decided against it since the album is still months away from release..

One final note: The guys are considering having a contest and letting 50 Van Halen die-hards sift through all 50 tunes to pick their favorite 12 to make the new album...

Fifty songs? And they're only going to use 12?

Damn, my dream box set is getting bigger by the minute.

Damn good post man. Hope its true. The only thing that sounds fishy is the part about Mikey singing lead. Although I wouldn't mind hearing it, I don't think Dave would go for it. I have mixed feelings about Bob Rock as the ONLY producer of any record, but in this case, I think he would be beneficial as one of 3 producers. As much as I hate to say it, I think his best quality is that he has a way of putting a band in the spotlight. I think too much of that however, would lead to VH turning into a Bon Jovi-type act and I speak for everyone when I say HELL NO!! I think a tweak here and there from Bob might not be such a bad idea.
Other than that, if this is true, sounds great! I'm sure they are having a spat here and there, but hell, bands that have never broken up do that. As long as the new record kicks everybody's ass all over the school playground, I'm a happy bastard!!!!

    Damn,

I was hooked on that one till I heard the 50 tunes... Shermans shotgun reloading and the tuba bit.

The things I loved about that rumour of course was the killer tunes and Mikey singing lead on one of the vocals. I wonder if Dave would be adverse to Mikey singing a couple of Sammy tunes while he was back stage taking a lead or something.

Hey Sherman - are you going to give us loyal, die hard, rabid fans "fair warning" a week or so before the announcement? Some of us need to take the time off work.

Hay Sherm! I posted a week or two back that the CD is due out in Feb. Someone put it in the rumor mill so fast it made my head spin!!! I cant spill my source! That would be throwing him under the bus! How do I get any credit around here?

Feb 2001 seems like a long ways away. Hell since we've waited this long what's a few more months.

    Your right MV.

I remember after VH III was released and VH was back in the studio - people were saying - guys take your time - put out a kick ass cd!

But still - guys, were DYIN out here.

If they wanted to play with out minds a little - they should release a new track from the upcoming cd - but just an instrumental! Then ask what we think - but give no official indication on who is singing vocals.

    1) We already know that.
    2) You could tell from the music anyway, whether it would be worthy of Van HALEN.

If they really wanted to fuck with our minds (as if the last 9 months wasn't bad enough) they could take a cheese ballad from the aborted VD followup and try to pass that off as the new single.

I would know they were only kidding, but that's what I said about VD III

Van HALEN is: Dave, Eddie, Mikey, Alex. Any questions?
