is it just me, or does crossing over have a "kashmir" kind of vibe? i'm not saying i like it better than kashmir, but there seems to be some kind of sweeping, lawrence of arabia, movie score feel to it. maybe it's just me.

Awards:
I love the whole vibe in Crossing Over. It's a great tune. I would have ended Balance with Crossing Over and ditched Feelin'. I can't stand that song. It is contrived and monotonous.

Crossing Over was a song that couldve been.It was their most serious song i though, and the feel to it was dark with dispair. It's one of my favorite songs of Van Halen and if they had put it on BALANCE,then it wouldve been the icing in the cake for the serious subject matter the album had.I always thought if they had made a video for it,the whole band would wear their brown clothes like in those pictures they took for Balance, and with sunglasses, and walk around a cementery.just a thought.

Great track and I bought the Japanese import just so I could have the track on
CD. Some of the bands best work occurred on the Balance album and subsequently
with the release of Humans Being not to mention the much talked about Between Us
Two which was suppose to be Van Halen's Stairway to Heaven. Just goes to prove
that their was plenty of good music left in the tank with Van Hagar."It's now officially 5150 time!!!"

i like the idea of ending the album with it. i do think VH was locked in on some good songwriting by the end of balance/ humans being. whether that was because of the friction, or in spite of it, i don't know. but i'd like to see if they could recapture it.

A Friend of mine told me that Eddie wanted Balance to be like "Dark Side Of The Moon".But everyone had such diffrent styles they couldnt do it.Im not complaining.

I like Crossing Over, wish it would have been on Balance instead of Strung Out and Doin' Time. It's a dark, serious song that would have fit well.

Kenny, it is the B-side of "Can't Stop Loving You" if you can find it as a CD single. It's also on the Japanese version of Balance.

Great song, but did anybody notice how the bridge melody is a ripoff of "Love Walks In"?

"Strung Out", however, is the biggest piece of shit to ever come out of 5150 and grace its presence on a VH album."Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that."
"This is a lttle prayer dedicated to the separation of church and state. I guess if they are going to force those kids to pray in schools they might as well have a nice prayer like this: Our Father who art in heaven, and to the republic for which it stands, thy kingdom come, one nation indivisible as in heaven, give us this day as we forgive those who so proudly we hail. Crown thy good into temptation but deliver us from the twilight's last gleaming. Amen and Awomen. ."

Oh man, Crossing Over is possibly the best song that VanHagar ever recorded. From the very beginning it has that classic VH sound w/ Eddie pushing out those
volume swells along w/ Alex and Mike holding down the bottom end. It proved that the horizon could be expanded w/Sammmy and I would have loved to hear some more songs, maybe a whole album w/that vibe.
Balance was sort of heading in that direction but the songs are being pulled in to many directions.
If you want to make a Dark Side of the Moon or a Disentigration you have to be commited and I think by that point the tension in the band was too heavy and the creative process was sapped, of course I know that Pink Floyd were far from brotherly alot of the time and ultimately it broke them apart but not before they created some great music. Maybe Ed should have pushed harder i.e. Fair Warning.

Chris, check this out. Al Dimeola is a serious monster. https://youtu.be/eJWUD3BHnNA Too many of these guys were technical as fuck but their music sucked. Not the case with Al.
