Ha-Ha! My sister is the same age as you...Iím a few years younger. I would always rummage through her albums. I remember she had an album by a band named Gulliver. Reason why I liked at the time was because of this dude wearing a Batman shirt. Turns out it was Daryl Hall.

When I was about 7 or 8 years old, I would sneak into my sister's room and listen to her Partridge Family albums on her little turntable aka "record player" ...

    Ha-Ha! Jamming with Keith!

My sister had the usual classic albums from the Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Styx, Fleetwood Mac to name a few. But her 45 collection was crazy and organized in those little cases. For some reason, I remember playing Hooked on a Feeling, Barracuda & Dr. Love. Crazy what you remember...

yep. I guess maybe for the adults with the tail end of the vietnam war and watergate and the gas crisis the '70s weren't great, but for a kid - wonderful time.

Was there a version of "Fancy" in the '70s that was popular?

Don't forget "Timothy"! Cannibalism seems to creep people out.

The original Fancy was written by the awesome Bobbie Gentry. Reba covered it in the 90's

I had a couple of those record cases that I dragged around. And let me tell you, mine were FULL. My grandmother left the stress of nursing behind for the stress of restaurant management and I would get the records from the juke box when they changed them out. Talk about an eclectic collection.

I had country, including Fancy because my mother never listened much to lyrics and didn't get the theme LOL And I had this weird record called Sittin in an All Night Cafe that my brothers and I would listen to over and over and remember to this day.

Our music teacher at school would let us bring records on Fridays so that he could get a handle on the young kids music and boy did he get an earful from my honky tonk record collection. I think we listened to almost the entire Bang a Gong record before he got a funny look on his face and took the record off. But he liked all my Beatles records

My Grandma also gave me records records records for Christmas. Partridge Family, Carpenters, Beatles Osmonds and all the Disney sound tracks

I used to believe the version that "Timothy" was a mule and they deliberately left it vague to cause a stir but much later I read an interview with Rupert Holmes and he confirmed that it was a song about cannibalism that was done because of an issue with the record company and the song became an almost accidental hit. Reminds me of the show "The Producers" Were they trying to get dropped? That would be a good way to get out of a contract

    still, what a weird song.

It is a rather odd song lyrically, but I love it, also. I dig the jazzy major 7th and 9th chords.

Itís me...my musical taste runs narrow.

Having said that, I do appreciate the musicianship (especially the guitar) but the vocals/lyrics kill it for me.

Oddly enough the beginning of the song reminds me of the Joy of Painting theme. Happy little trees...
