Singer Dilemma is Irresolvable

My take on the singer vacancy in VH-
I fear that whatever route the brothers take in filling the singer position will continue the divide among VH fans that has been ongoing for the last 17yrs.
Problem #1, Touring: If it's Dave he will not sing Sammy songs. If it's Sammy, he will only sing three Dave songs. Gary will sing all songs, but fans will not want to hear his own songs or be receptive to his stage presence.

Problem #2, In studio: Dave will not be receptive to singing to Ed's new musical interest and direction (Once, Josephina).

Problem #3, Exposure: Sam will not bring the shot in the arm the group needs to re-establish themselves to the top of the musical scene. Other than us core fans, I don't see this choice bringing in new fans. Radio interest will be initially high, but will fade out as most of Van Hagar has over the years.

Problem#4, A New singer: Will alienate Dave and Sammy fans who will continue to bash the bros for not bringing back their singer of choice.

I for one could live with any option including a new singer or no singer, as long as I hear new music. We've got to move forward. As 9/11 draws near we must realize life is not guaranteed for any of us, including the members in our beloved group. I as a fan will support any musical direction they choose to pursue. I will just listen to less of what I like and to more of what moves me. [img]graemlins/thumb.gif[/img]

I think you may be right. I still have a feeling that a reunion of some kind may take place just to reap one more big payday. A reunion with either Dave or Sammy would probably last 2 tours at the most and I would venture to guess that the VH brothers know this as well. Now the biggest money maker would be a reunion with Dave just because it would bring a lot of casual fans out of the woodwork. Either way, VH owes its fans a statement announcing a reunion, new chapter or retirement.

They really should consider a Santana-esque project with an all-star line-up of singers. Throw in the best of their recent DLR sessions, and maybe a new tune with Sammy. That way it somewhat keeps the peace between the Dave and Sam fans, and Eddie can explore his other musical interests with different vocalists. Remember, Eddie wanted to do this in '86. Maybe now's the time.

i am one of the biggest proponents of a roth/VH reunion or nothing- but i have to admit that the suggestion above really is starting to make the most sense nowadays... its the only way VH can go without losing like half their fan base...

can we maybe get maynard james keenan to collaborate on a tune with VH? that might be pretty intense!

i'm sorry i think they are going to go with sammy, and even if they did go with dave it think van halen will rise to the top again with either one. i do not want to see an all star album done, what would they do on tour? who would sing all the songs? would they do any dlr/sammy era songs?
i say take dave or sammy even a 4th singer if it works out great if not then call it quits.
