Why didn't Dave get credits on 5150. It is well know that he and Eddie started writing that album before DLR's departure.

I always heard that Eddie, Michael and Alex were working on those songs while DLR was off doing another project. It's possible that Dave heard some of the material but the actual writing of the lyrics/melodies were done by Hagar.

Dave had quit... the band moved on. I don't see the issue... if any material Dave contributed to had not been published then he holds no rights.

I know that they had worked on a few tracks together but I'm positive that whatever lyrical treatment that Dave had contributed were rewritten by Sammy when he joined the band. So the completed version of 5150 had really nothing to do with Dave because Ed always wrote the music.

Actually Dave had written lyrics to "summer nights". If i'm not mistaken I believe his version of the song was called "Eat thy Neighbor". He may have been working up lyrics for a couple other songs on 5150 as well. When Dave eventually left the band in '85 his lyrics left with him.

I've always heard that Dave had 3 or 4 songs recorded with the 5150 albums music. If they do exist I'm sure Eddie has them in his huge vault of unheard stuff that we would all give are right arm to hear!

Eddie most likely has those rare recordings sittin right beside the mint full length Oakland '81 concert video...

Dave did NOT write the lyrics to "Summer Nights" (or any other songs on 5150). In fact, "Summer Nights" is the first song Sam put lyrics to. I don't think DLR had much to do with the album at all. He may have heard some of the initial music, but he was busy promoting the "Crazy from the Heat" EP to do any writing.

I'm sorry that is not the case. Both Ed and Dave have stated in past interviews that they did get about four or five songs completed. Ed stated that he had riffs and strucures for "Summer Nights", "Good Enough", and others that he and Dave had worked on. But you are correct that Dave did not write any of the lyrics that appeared on 5150 they are all Hagars.

The more important question is: why didn't Eddie get any credit for "Yankee Rose"?

DLR doesn't write riffs or music (except maybe in his imagination).

I keep hearing that around here from time to time. When was it ever stated that Ed wrote "Yankee Rose"? I thought that Steve Vai wrote the music? Anyone?????

If EVH felt he was owed credit for something that appeared on a DLR solo album, or if DLR felt he was owed credit for something that appeared on a VH album after he left, in the course of their bickering we'd have heard about it!

Here is another theory why Yankee Rose may be an Eddie writen tune too. If you notce that during this past tour, the only "solo" song Dave did was Yankee Rose. We know that Dave only wanted to play VH music and bring 1978-1984 VH back into the summer sheds. The newest song he did was off of 1986's EEAS... But just like some of the songs off of 5150 were started to be writen when Dave was in the Band, it could very well be that Dave took some of the songs from the VH camp and repackaged them in EEAS. A cross polenation of sorts.

Sammy came in and rewrote the songs using the music that Ed had already written.

It was my understanding that Steve Lukather wrote the music to Yankee Rose - Dave tried to buy a bunch of songs of Lukather for EEAS,Lukather sought Eddie's approval before doing it,Eddie didn't care, deal done.I read that in Guitar For The Practicing Musician Magazine from an interview with Eddie circa 1986.
If Dave got any credit on 5150 then Sammy should get some for VH3(No Thanks!). He stated he had heard all those riffs before he left.

Because Dave didn't contribute any of the Lyrics which is all he ever contributed to the musical process between he and Eddie. I've always tried to tell everyone if Dave had stayed you would have had basically the same 5150 album with Dave's lyrics and Voice. To the deciples, I know that would have made all the difference. My point always was that Sammy didn't change the musical direction of VH, Eddie did. Dave can't get any credit for this album because Sammy wrote all the lyrics.
