Unfortunately for me, I recently (past few months) purchased the first 6 albums in CD form. (My collection consisted of albums and cassettes before this.)

My question for you guys is...is there that much difference with remasters?

I know many of you play guitar, etc, and have a better "ear" for improved sound, but...sad to say, I do not!

Do you think someone with my limited musical knowledge would notice improvements? Would like to get the remasters, but I don't know if it would be worth it to buy them all again so soon.

    Opinions anyone?

I'm also eager to hear some of our musician friends answer this question. I'm very much looking forward to these remasters, but I'm a bit apprehensive about it as well. I'll certainly be disappointed if I throw the headphones on and can't really tell a difference. Of all of them, I find Diver Down to be the most in need of being beefed up, and I'm hoping that it's as great sounding as I'm hoping it will be.

    Glenn,

I'm not confident about many things lately when it comes to our favorite band. But this I am confident about: The re-masters are gonna be a big improvement sonically...

Every album I have ever bought that was remastered, has always been a noticeable imporvement in sound. And I'm sure it'll be the same case here.

I very recently upgraded my VH/DLR collection to CD. When ordering the CD's - WACF, FW, and DD, I was given the choice of the originals or pre-order the re-masters. I chose the originals, I just feel that I would prefer to hear the albums the way they were recordered originally. Why tamper with that classic sound.

I hated when other bands remastered their albums, and I felt the exact same way. But now I'm excited as hell to hear these amazing albums remastered. Hopefully they sound as great as I'm hoping they do.

Thanks for the input. Of course, if I win the contest, it just won't matter!

Master Joe: Interesting point you made about not purchasing the remasters - makes me feel good about my recent purchases.

I don't need anymore new "old" stuff now, but I really want to see(?) if I hear the difference...so I'll problably start with FW and make up my mind after comparing it.

I've got a set of remastered albums from another band that was recording at the same time - the results vary, depending on how good the origionals production was - the better produced albums, you may not notice a lot of difference. The sound really doesnt get changed -= no 'mistakes' in playing or whatever are changed, just clarity and definition of the recording... pre 83/84 albums were not really produced to sound good on CD (as they wernt around), they were produced to sound good on vynal. When CD's took off, the record companys just ported them straight over in many cases, without really adjusting anything to take advantage of the benefits cd's have to offer..

In short, yes, they will sound better, but until we actually get to hear them for ourselves, how much better is hard to say.... just keep looking here and see what feedback starts to filter in - I must say the set of remastered cds I have (not VH), is a vast improvement.
