I don't know much about these producers, but didn't Glen Ballard have something to do with MWM and CGTSNM? If so, why not bring him back, if he's available? I liked those songs. Shit, if he can inject a little modern blood into VH, bring him on! I guess everybody's problem with Bob Rock is that he tries to modernize bands too much. I really don't care, because I don't think anybody is really gonna change Ed's sound too much unless he does it himself. It's all about the guitar anyway. And Dave too. Damn that was a random post.........

Yeah, I think Glen Ballard was the producer of the two new songs on Best Of Volume 1. But I would like to see Ted Templeman produce the new album so they can go back to their old sound. Like Mike said, the new album was going to sound more like their older stuff.

I dont know who I would pick. However, I wouldnt be surprised if they were using several, if in fact they are working with DLR again....
It would be cool if they did this music with DLR first and are now working with a producer or two to finish it.

Well fuck, since it's become clear that Van Halen don't even have a producer yet, I don't even fuckin know man...The only modern blood out there IS EVH!
If they are working with DLR in fact, which is highly indisuputable(forgive the hypocracy), I'd say Templeman..all the way....

My problem with Ballard or Rock is that they produce to appeal to the masses and those albums always suck the most. Kinda like the single always has the potential to be the one song I don't like to listen to. I dislike 1984 because of 'Jump' and it's mass appeal. I'm mean the song sucks AND everybody liked it. I realize that's a Ted production, nevertheless he should be the one to produce the new album and it shouldn't appeal to the masses or it'll very likely suck. That's just my opinion

I'm not convinced that Ted is needed at this point. I'm sure VH could make an awesome album with other producers.
I really liked the sound of both CGTSNM and MWM, so Ballard would be fine with me.
Don't forget though, our man T5 threw his hat in the ring the other day here, so don't count him out of the running.

Bob Schlock is annoying, but Ballard did masterful work on "CGTSNM" and "Me Wise Magic." Would love to see him produce the next VH album. You guys all love Ted Templeman, and he was very much into having a commercial "pop" sensibility on his recordings.

Who ever they use, I hope they use throughout the album. Nothings worse than an album with inconsitent production.
If they're going for the old sound--and not using TT--that'll give us something to debate for a while.
Bob Rock takes one aspect of a band's sound, and makes it dominate an album. All we'd have is guitar.
Ballard would be ok, but MWM felt too big to me. How the hell would they do that kind of thing live, with so many layers?

Sorry, I gotta use the Motley example for Bob Rock again:
I think he's an excellent hard rock/metal producer who brings out the best in a hard rock/metal band. On "Dr. Feelgood", Motley produced their best album, and it didn't focus on just one instrument. Tommy Lee's drums were outstanding, along with the guitars, bass and vocals. I don't necessarily think he's right for VH, though. I think that Ted would certainly be a high choice on the list.
I just think it's funny that Eddie always says the same thing about his producers, that they're great and there's no reason to work with anyone else ever again. Then he goes and picks someone else for the next album.

What I meant about Bob Rock is that we'd have a very one-dimensional album in many respects. He'd focus Eddie strictly on guitar, and I think we'd miss out on other aspects of the band's creativity. Things would be very, very polished but not reflect much growth.
Take ALAE for example. There was none of the departure tunes that Dave is so fond of falling into. It was a really good album, but I think it was what Bob Rock thought Dave's music should be, not what Dave thought it should be.
Long-term, I think that sort of producing destroys a bands uniqueness. Look what he's done with Metallica. Some folks think it's great, but Metallica hasn't been Metallica in a long time. Bob Rock changes a band's sound.

Glenn Ballard produces AeroSHIT.
That's hardly something to brag about.
And as for this crap about their not being a producer? Who said so?
Oh right, the clueless fuckwad who can't tell a personal attack from self defense

I don't think Bob Rock had much to do with Metallica's going down the shitter in the past 5 years. Metallica did that shit on their own.
As for ALAE, I can't really say. I've never listened to the album. All I know is that I think he did a helluva job on "Dr. Feelgood".

One of my reservation about Ted is that he's pushing 60 or something. Not the best choice to sound modern.
Goin back to the classic sound?
Rick Rubin!
But I don't think he'd take all the ego bs very long, he'd probably lock them each in separate rooms and turn off the light!

Anyone think that maybe Van Halen is producing it themselves?
Ed has certainly been very involved in producing since 5150, and he has learned alot from Landee, Ted, Andy Johns, Ballard, and Fairbairn and even Mick Jones.
I wouldn't be surprised if this is the case, and maybe they are bringing someone in for the "post production" work.
This would seem like a reasonable explanation for the LONG wait.
Hmmmmmmmm,,,,,,,

Carne Asada fries are bomb. I would order those for lunch at work and have them add chorizo to it. Gooey kind of burnt cheese on top.
McDonalds, and be honest.
