Why would he put a metal guitar pick in his mouth? What is the big deal about the metal guitar pick?

I don't think it sounds that far-fetched.
Eddie's been smoking for what . . . 30-35 years or so?? You would think he'd have lung cancer by now!!
I think it's more likely to get cancer in your mouth from "chew", as opposed to cigarettes.
Yes? . . . No? ???

Not to jump in and interupt all of you medical experts discussing Edward's personal health situation...
Could it be remotely possible that the original poster was attempting to gain information on the technical aspects of playing guitar with a metal guitar pick...???
I realize it's no longer en vogue to discuss music on a band fan site... but what the fuck... I'm gonna buck the trend and breach the cultural norm...
Since about 97 or so... Edward started playing around with using metal picks. If I recall correctly he originally was playing with a quarter then modified it's shape and then had someone fabricate some picks to his specifications. Ed felt he found a noticiable difference in tone using the metal picks.
I myself have been using Cymbolic picks for about a year now and I've found I like the tone I get with it. Obviously it's great for a hard attack picking... but I've also found I get a ring tone on softer picking that is unique to the metal against metal combination. Some folks claim they get a higher pitch or tinier tone using metal... I've actually found the opposite. Actually I've found using the metal has changed my attack significantly with a bit more accuracy because I'm not compensating for the variance in pick bends...
Your milage may vary...Woke up this mornin, got Blue Moon in your eyes...

Eddie's Doctors believe that his tongue may have been caused by him sucking a metal guitar.
I was told this by Leslie West's tour manager - who'd heard it from Leslie West - who is a friend of Eddie's.
