Could the person "we all know" actually be Mike?
This is probably a Op/spec toopic but I'll start it here.

Maybe Dave did 3 killer songs to be used as singles.

then Mike sings on the rest.

Maybe this is "baby steps", use Dave sparingly on album then tour with him and play mostly classic VH and a couple new ones?
