so back in 95 when I called Foxwoods casino to get tix to see Roth... I was put on hold and they played a sweet studio version of Dave doing Ice Cream Man with a big band. When I got a hold of a human I ordered my tix and asked about the song, They said it was a promo that daves people gave them to play. Has this surfaced anywhere?? or has antone else heard this??

The show was great too. Edgar Winter in the band....

Dave mentioned in his book that these recordings with Edgar Winter never saw the light of day (and probably never will). But like you said there may have been some copys for promotion purpose to make some teasers for the shows.

LMAO! Very true but I gotta admit I would've enjoyed seeing Dave play with a big band although seeing that abortion of an interview he did on Late Night back then really soured me on him and his performance of California Girls was rather weird. But cheese doesn't bother me, ironically it only seems to bother really die-hard Dave fans.

I'm a die hard Roth era fan, and there is plenty of cheesy music out there that I do like. I just don't like cheese in Van Halen. For instance, I hate "Dancing In The Streets". I guess it's just what you consider to be cheesy.

Then you must not like Jamie's Crying, Dance The Night Away, Feel Your Love Tonight, Little Guitars, Big Bad Bill, Cradle Will Rock, Ice Cream Man, Beautiful Girls, Pretty Woman, Could This Be Magic, the video for Hot For Teacher, Dave's Satchmo/Game Show Host routine or all of his pouting, posing and prancing that he's done onstage since 1978?

Call it silly, goofy, funny, cheesie or what have you. Van Roth was extremely cheesie most of you just can't recognize it even though Dave is beating you over the head with it. Personally I love it but I am also aware of it. Many of you are not or refuse to acknowledge that it's there

Like I said Loop, It's what you call cheesy. To you all of the above that you mentioned is cheesy. And, you are certainly entitled to your opinion and I respect that. I also agree that alot of things That DLR has done musically can be considered cheesy i.e.. "Crazy From The Heat EP", "Just Like Paradise", etc. and I still love it. However, my definition or interpretation of cheesy is completely different. I consider alot of 1980's power ballads to be cheesy. Hence that's why I consider certain Hagar era songs like "Feels So Good" and "Love Walks In" cheesy. Regardless, I respect your opinions and I hope that you do mine. Peace.

Dave talks about this in some depth in his book. He mentioned sicking $200,000 into the video or something. He sure seemed to love this video and big band version of the song.

No I agree totally and find power ballads extremely cheesie but that's why I like them. Inparticular Journey, Styx and Van Hagar's but many, many others as well. I eat that shit up for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Honestly, I don't find cheese to be a bad thing while many do. I just don't see though how fans can point the finger at Hagar for his cheese but give Davea a free pass on his. Personally I love that stuff but like my old sig read "it ain't easy being cheesie"
