Most folks seem to dismiss this closing track off of 5150. Some even go as far as to say they flat out hate it. Or referring to it as "filler"...
I think I must be the only one here who digs this song. I love the lyrics in this one. Sure I'll give ya, there are plenty of examples in the Van Hagar catalogue, of "cheesy lyrics" but I don't believe this song is one of them. I love the line about "I went out and bought brand new shoes, now I walk like someone ELSE!" Very cool....
I like Inside. I like that it's "different sounding" and I think it's cool.
Anyone else feel this way? Or am I all alone here?

I don't HATE it, but it's my least favorite song on 5150. It has a pretty cool solo.
I like how they included the band speaking in the background so we know what they're really like. "JC Penny, man, JC Penny." "It's so damn hot... milk was a bad choice." --Ron Burgundy, Anchorman

I love the "Inside"!
It's actually one of my favorites off of 5150. I think the "Inside" is better than "Dreams" or "Good Enough". The tune just has a killer groove, plus it's a little different for VH. "A Apolitical Blues" is another tune that people just don't dig.
How could you not like it???
VH playing the blues! I would've liked to have heard a blues album with Sammy. That would've been cool to hear. I think Sam has a good voice for the blues.
Oh well! Anyway "Inside" rocks!M*U*L*E

Very cool Rod! Glad I'm not the only one who digs Inside. And I agree with you on A Apolitical Blues too. I love their version of that classic Little Feat song. But it seems like most do not like it and I don't know why!

"INSIDE" is truely one of my favorite Hagar Era tunes. Ed's solo and the "groove" is awesome. Love this tune !!
No, no way are you the only one that really digs this song from 5150.
Oh by the way, APOLITICAL BLUES is also a personal favorite from 0U812. A great cover tune for Sammy to sing and the boys to play !!!
Yep, two of my favorite songs from Hagar Era.

Ew, I hate A Apolitical Blues. But I love "Inside." I don't think it's better than Dreams, but I agree it's better than Good Enough. I love the quick keyboard intro at the beginning of "Inside." It punches you! The music is cool and it shows that the guys can goof off and still be serious at music

"Inside" is pretty cool tune. It's not one that you would work out to but a good song nevertheless. I like all the background vocals from the band. After 15 years, I still hear things in the background that I never did before.

Speaking of background vocals, I've always wondered exactly what the conversations were behind the music. I can catch little things here and there, but most of it gets lost. Anybody got a transcript of all the goofing around?

Here are the words but I'm not sure who is saying each line:
"Man, what kinda crap is this?

Hey, let's blow it out here now man, alright?

Oh, okay--so THAT'S what they were saying!
It all makes so much sense now!
You know, maybe they dropped some clues to who the new lead singer will be in here. Hmmmm...somebody call Mulder and Scully!

"Inside" is definitely a cool groove with a good chorus hook (what's goin' down on the inside) although the talking is kind of stupid in my opinion. I thought it was funny when they did it with "Hot for Teacher" because "hey what are you doin' this weekend?" is typical of what you would actually hear in a classroom when two people are whispering to each other. I also thought the sound of the beer bottle rolling around was really cool too. "Inside" is a cool tune though for sure, better than "Good Enough" and "Get Up" IMO.

I love the, "Inside". Very funky groove and I feel that the boys were just blowing off some steam and having a good time with it. Ya know, I can only imagine what kind of pressure they were under durning this time in their lives, not knowing if their fans and the rest of the rock world were gonna accept this album, with a new lead singer. Got to be scary time for a band. I feel that the "Inside" was their way of showing us fans that they had fun doing this different album (For them), and kinda of a neat way to intoduce Sammy into the land of Van Halen. Positively a stress release for them I'm sure.
Kinda funny side note, the 5150 opened here in Shreveport, and I remember that when the doors of the arena were opened, there was such a rush of fans to get to the stage that the fans crushed the baracade wall and "PUSHED" the stage back a whole 8 feet. Knocked the whole lighting system out of focus and messed up some of the sound equipment. Talk about tense But, one of the best shows I've ever seen..bugs and all.
